Crystal Web (NEW ISP) ADSL Feedback

Wazzup did not pay Cybersmart - that's why they had been cut off.
They were saying that they couldn't make a profit because the allocation for support was reduced to the bone. They also said that Cybersmart had told them to discourage uncapped customers, specifically if they had reported problems. i.e. if you report a problem a few times, they tell you to move to Cybersmart direct. Despite Wazzup stating that their uncapped was unshaped for business, Cybersmart were saying they never offered unshaped services. It was quite a mess.

Been with them for over 3 weeks. Support from DJ has been superb - he spent 3 hours the other night troubleshooting a problem which was finally resolved (my hardware).

There are some exciting offerings in the pipe-line which he will divulge once the time is right.

I have cancelled my AH capped account and moved fully over to CW.

We need an Official Thread for Crystal Web, unless this will become the official thread then in that case we need to sticky it.

All the best to DJ and his team at Crystal Web. I for one want to see this work and not only just work but also to set a benchmark that other ISP's should follow.

Will be joining the Crystal Web team in July :D

I read "Crystal Web" as "Crystal Meth" the whole time!
It's kinda funny. :D
Good luck with your endeavors.

I also read it like that. Could that be how DJ stays up all night and does the support himself?:D

Please note that we are fast approaching our pre-launch limit and will soon not be accepting new registrations until official launch. On behalf of everyone at Crystal Web we'd like to thank you for your early support in us, as well as the many well wishes and kind words from this fantastic community. We are under no illusions that everything will always be smooth sailing - we will have our ups, and we'll have our downs, but we will always endeavour to keep our customers, and importantly, this community in the loop regarding any issues, opportunities, new products, news and other important information.

We will never share passwords
We will never share accounts
We will never willingly share your information outside of Crystal Web
We will never treat you like a burden

Our team is currently made up of Shaun, Paul, Matthew, The Godfather (Godfrey), Michael Jackson (MJ), (Ivan) Lendl, Cheryl, and new staff to join soon (still hiring). We are the Crystal Web team behind the scenes trying to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience, and if we ever don't live up to these expectations, please let us know about it. We welcome suggestions, we encourage an active involvement with our customers and this community, and we'll always be as transparent as we possibly can with you. We are a small company for now, with big ambitions, and the right people to make it happen. Together with our customers, we want to take an active role in reforming and transforming the landscape of broadband quality and broadband access in South Africa. Paul represents Crystal Web as well as our competitors, customers and general public when he sits in on ICASA advisory hearings relating to the market. I don't think anyone else is more committed to LLU and other important regulatory matters than Paul (okay, perhaps ellipsis and some of our great competitors too, who we have the utmost respect for).

At launch Crystal Web will be focused on three important points: ADSL, Fibre to the business and home, and customer support. We're excited about our launch, and want to get you as excited about it as we are! Especially the MyBroadband community.

Regards

Shaun

:D

Certainly not. It's all blood, sweat, and hopefully tears of joy for me...

Like many other customers at my current ISP, I signed up and am now waiting for the 1st to test.

Loving the focus on transparency, something that my current ISP has been lacking for months.

They don't seem to be mething around with the sign up and I've experienced.

All the best to DJ, Paul et al

I'm not clear on the technical ramifications of all this, but one issue I had when I was with Cybersmart was international game latency was not working very well for me (although in the interests of transparency, they were very helpful and motivated to help me solve the issue, I just ran out of energy at some point during the fairly exhaustive diagnostic process).

Long rambling short - Any idea how you guys do regarding latency to the EU region? As a point of comparison, my Afrihost account is consistently sub 200 ms (often in the 170 region), and this is just fantastic.

I had a test account and can say the latency's I had were great day and night. Tested EU, NA and Russia.

Wow, Im super impressed by what you guys are doing. You must have deep pockets because ADSL is a very tough/competitive market to break out into. Most people start as a one man show and slowly build up, but you guys seem to be going balls to the wall from the start.

If you can offer fiber in East London I will be one of your first paying clients :D (Dark Fiber did lay trunking outside my house).

With the amount of staff you have it looks like it might take a while for you to break even (cause your profits on a 1000 accounts is very low), but if you have deep enough pockets you will get there.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to some exciting products.

PS: Kiss any holidays or days off for the next 3 years :D Running an ISP is relentless.

I am an early adopter, I was on board before launch :P
The product is great, let me not kid you, it is possible to get full, and I mean, FULL line speed on a download from my box in Cape Town. Neither MWEB, Cybersmart, or OpenWeb allowed me this indulgence.

International is pretty good, but a little birdie told me that by the end of June that will be optimal.

For those of you who are battling with Afrihost and OpenWeb's throttling, this is a very good solution, at least during the day the connectivity is there.

To be very honest, you know your internet has been crap for 2 years when you sign up with an ISP such as this and things work that have been broken for a while.

I've set up numerous businesses before, and none have been quite as interesting and challenging as setting up a successful ISP. That said, we have the funding, we have the team, we have the business sense, we have the technical expertise, we have the right partnerships, we have a (I hate to use this word on mybb) sustainable long-term business model, and we have the drive and dedication to make this a success.

And we've already kissed all free time away. But we're having fun doing it...

As long as it's "speedy", I don't mind :)

Speaking of which, I am still curious about daytime P2P at the moment. I know it will be heavily shaped. With OpenField, I used to get something during the day at least. That has slowed down to a trickle, like a drip set to the slowest speed. I would like to know what the general experience has been like so far on that for others on CW so far?

Any plans to branch out in the 3G/LTE market at a later stage? :)

We cannot divulge our plans just yet. But what I can say is we're aligned with the market expectations and will develop our product offerings accordingly. Wireless broadband is certainly an aspect of the market where consumers constantly demand change...
