I dont. It is easy for me to tell my Pi only to fetch things at those times, but if the data still counts towards my shaping cap then what is the point before I'm shaped?

Making the product sustainable and continue is the point...

To help maintain a sustainable isp.
Yes, that's all good, except in 1 years time (when Paul and Shaun are driving Ferraris), there will be a whole lot of new users who haven't read this thread, and won't give it a second thought. There should be some motivation to do downloads in off-peak times (while un-shaped). As I've mentioned before, perhaps CW can be less strict when shaped provided the user has downloaded in off peak in the un-shaped portion.

I've apparently been hit with exchange congestion, and it's a ****ing nightmare. I see why people bitch about it so much.

Paul and Shaun driving Ferraris after a year of running an ISP?

I think you overestimate what the margins ACTUALLY are for an ISP...

It would be, without a doubt...

But zero rating that time period would push the costs of the account up by quite a chunk.... and would you pay the extra money?
Web Africa seems to manage it fine. I'll even take less unshaped gigs during daytime to avoid getting shaped by the 20th of each month. I've reverted to not scheduling downloads anymore because there is no point.

I still don't understand how using 100g/200gb of unshaped data whenever you like is considered better than managing your downloads in off-peak time.

Not that this applies to me as I don't download but I think ppl make valid points in here.
If you don't make some kind of window then folks will just use their data in peak times which would surely put a load on the system?

Yes, so?

If you want uncapped unshaped then pay up.

:wtf:

Are you serious?

I want to save up my unshaped data for the time I actually need it (streaming twitch during WCS for example, which happens to occur at about 2PM Fridays, inside of the daytime window). I dont need unshaped all the time. From a business perspective, Paul/Shaun pay for capacity and not data. At night there is some extra capacity not being used - i.e. they are losing money. If I move my not so important downloads to that time period, I save them bandwidth during busy hours and help take up capacity at low peak.

If they zero-rate my data at that time, it is a win-win situation. I get my downloads and still have unshaped capacity for when I need it, and their network is better optimised.

Shaping shouldn't affect your streaming anyway. So your argument is moot

I just didn't bother replying to him, seemed it would of went no where, besides every ISP's offers uncapped unshaped data as well, it's called thresholds/rolling windows/star systems, when unshaped data is used then shaping policy is applied, I just don't see the need to say 100GB's unshaped data anytime....

You might be surprised at your concept of offering unshaped data relating to the star system/rolling window etc.. its still shaped data.

Ok, so even if I use my 'cap' streaming it will not be shaped?
Good to know.

Yes, pretty much the only stuff that gets shaped during the day are p2p, nntp and large downloads.. everything else is free and open as far as I understand.

My concept of unshaped data related to the star system/rolling window is what I have been told by the ISP's and reading of their website, unless you know otherwise and can provide the information to me and those that have been told otherwise, I/we would be grateful...
