There are low reports of outages behind the Boerewors curtain because Slaapstadders take two days to realize they have no power.

Yes, mod is merge.
There was a duplicate thread, I asked for it to be merged. Hence the mod's merge
Mod's could probably have added the first post in that to make it clearer what was merged, but it was done.

My invertor kicked in sometime during the night but was back on AC power this morning.

Not sure if it is related. In the Wynberg area.

Then the city wouldn't have been fixing the grid issue, Eskom would have been working on the problem.

The city has its own sub-grid, it can reroute power to some areas, independently of Eskom's feed. It gets quite messy (geographically and logistically) because Acacia OCGTs provides standby power for Koeberg, and Steenbras provides pumped storage.

Probably temporary glitch.

The "grid issue" seems to be a burn high voltage substation (thus likely Eskom), according to what I heard on the radio.

You don't think the city would have taken every opportunity to let everyone know it was an Eskom issue if it was an Eskom problem? I honestly don't see them letting an opportunity to play politics pass them by without taking full advantage.

A transformer has input, coils, and output. These don't necessarily belong to the same entity (like a shared boundary wall between neighbours). If a powerline drops onto your property and sets the house on fire, who is responsible for fixing it? Probably both...

But the MyBB rule about DA run municipalities is we don't knock them. So this is the first strike ... go sit in the naughty corner and listen to the 100 Great Speeches by Helen Zile.

"How to run a City correctly."

If only the loser government had that guide hey?
Nope. Not correctly. Not even close. But better than the other losers.
Competence is not something we have in abundance here.

The DA is less crap than the ANC etc. pity we have nothing better that people can/will vote for.

I really don’t like having to vote for the DA.

Seriously, Cape Town. One blackout and you guys create five threads? If you carry on behaving like this you won’t have to debate secession any more because we will KICK YOU OUT!!!
To be fair this one is quite big and will probably have some serious ramifications if not resolved quickly.

One of our DC sites is in town and they are burning diesel right now to keep it alive.

What is suspicious is that there was a planned outage just last weekend - almost like a test.
