Cyberpunk 2077

Mention these games. They are few and far between.
You're either a console gamer, kidding, or have a lesion on a certain area of your brain making you black out during driver installs.

Why do you think driver updates are so frequent for GPUs?

So we went from shifting the goalposts from just about every game to every major title to almost every aaa game and soon we'll be at only these notable ones.

But I digress, you don't understand the point.

Sorry to disappoint but I don't drink.
Brain lesion conformed.

No offense intended but I’m truly amazed that you managed to miss this. It’s like one of the main pillars of PC gaming.

Lol, yeah its us that dont see the point. Go away now

And as a rule drivers don't get optimised for games. The main pillar of gaming is to optimise your code for the hardware you're running on like A.o.t.S when AMD released Ryzen. When people were talking about downloading a driver for a game because some broken review footage leaked alarm bells should have went off all over the place, but I guess fanboyism has overgrown some people's brains.

So repeat after me, drivers don't fix a broken mess of a game or optimise it.

And as an aside no single driver has ever shown me it's optimised for any game.

After being told by no less than three forum members that you are just plain wrong, I think you should at least be curious enough to investigate for yourself. It would be trivially easy to find evidence because it’s just about Every. Damn. AAA. Game.

AMD and nVidia never ever fail to mention because 95% of the time it’s the only reason that there’s a driver update, at all. Go now. Google is waiting.

Yip, fanboyism confirmed. Explains why some people in here are happy with mediocrity and can't see the bugs right before their eyes.

So that's the reason why every single driver update actually lists a myriad of other fixes? Seems someone else isn't paying attention when doing driver updates...

Nah there are a ton of bugs and those will only be fixed by game patches.

But, drivers do get optimized for games. It’s a thing.

As an exception yes. Using the term "optimised for games" is also an incorrect layman term as that's not what is actually happening when a driver claims "support for xxxxxx". But the main point of what I said seems to have been lost on some here.

I agree with your understanding of drivers and updates to it.

I'm not a fanboy of the game, but I'm enjoying it each time I play it.
The performance tweaks like those ponder posted work great.
Yep. It's riddled with bugs, but that doesn't take away how much I enjoy it.

As I've said before. I'm playing it like an RPG. Not a FPS. Anyone's mileage may vary.

Seriously, NVIDIA do this ALL THE TIME. I don't buy many games but I specifically remember them doing it for Assassins Creed Odyssey as well. It's almost like they try to find a way to incentivize you to install their latest driver. You want an extra 2-3 FPS?? Check out our brand new game-ready driver optimised for [whatever the latest AAA game is here].

Just found that the 457.30 drivers was for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War etc.

I've started using the Geforce Game Driver a few months ago.
The great thing is, some games perform better with it. Games like CP2077 don't perform better with it on my PC.

If I however configure the program settings of the game or games in the usual Nvidia Control Panel, the Geforce Game driver is bypassed and it uses the Control Panel configured settings. I run a few games this way.

I fully understand that. Daikatana wasn't a great game but I enjoyed it somewhat with all its bugs. Was funny when an enemy couldn't shoot strait or just sat in a doorway while you shot the living **** out of a super bullet sponge.

The way it works is that game developers write shaders to handle the translation of polygons into coloured surfaces. Sort of like little programs. Most of them are tried and tested but development doesn't stand still so newer games would often employ newer shaders. They'd work but by employing shader optimisation a driver can shorten the process of translating high level code into low level code through the API and gain 1 or 2 ms per frame.

It's not really optimising for a game though. It doesn't usually net you more than a few frames per second extra. I doesn't speed up the game. It doesn't compensate for poor visuals and most importantly it doesn't correct game bugs like cars parking in the tar. It's not something that's done for every game and it doesn't even happen for most AAA titles as most don't try to reinvent the wheel.

Where the fanboyism came in is that just before launch when the glaring issues became apparent and reviewers were reporting bugs and issues with the game running tremendously slow some die hard fans came out of the woodwork punting that everyone should just ensure they download the latest drivers optimised for the game, which is not actually what shader optimisation is as these are just normal drivers and not drivers optimised for any one game.

Most driver releases are actually to fix their own issues. A shader optimisation was never going to fix all the numerous visual bugs. It was never going to fix the slow game response which by many accounts isn't just low fps but also the game engine unable to handle the world they created. Those that punted the driver update have no idea what it actually does and is for.

CDPR really dropped the ball on this one and in retrospect they were supported by a community that looked past the obvious issues. What they should have rather called for is for it to be delayed for 6 months so the obvious issues could be fixed. There would still have been the broken promises but at least they could have sold it for a new price. Now once everything is fixed it would only be worth bargain bin value because it would no longer be new.

I get it, you bought the ps4 version and are now a salty little kid about it
