Cyberpunk 2077

So I got myself the RTX 3070 from the 1080ti. And I started my 2nd playthrough. The game run so much better and my overall experience is just so much more smoother. DLSS does make one huge difference in this game.

As an exception yes. Using the term "optimised for games" is also an incorrect layman term as that's not what is actually happening when a driver claims "support for xxxxxx". But the main point of what I said seems to have been lost on some here.
It’s optimization. The layman definition for the word “optimization” is the only definition and AMD/nVidia describe it exactly as such. Don’t care what your point was because I have read enough “me too” CDPR bashing, just pointing out your ignorance wrt necessary optimization for varied hardware using the same API.

Nvidia says this in their driver release notes:

What’s New in Version 460.89 WHQL
GeForce Game Ready Driver

Game Ready Drivers provide the best possible gaming experience for all major new releases. Prior to a new title launching, our driver team is working up until the last minute to ensure every performance tweak and bug fix is included for the best gameplay on day-1.

I remember in the past they used to provide full details on which games performance were improved by x% with the new driver.

All I know is that Nvidia driver 460.xx broke RE:2, again :crying:

Yes, both AMD and Nvidia creates optimised profiles, many of which are shared by other games (and engines). The same reason the SLI communities still exist for altering and editing profiles for optimising a specific profile with existing profiles to still give purpose to multi GPU. Likewise with community driver modification.

For me 460.79, which is optimised for CP2077, broke the game. I've had SO MANY crashes thanks to that driver. Things have been made a bit better with 460.89, but got the distinct impression that someone was rushing to publish these drivers before they went away on holiday. They've been a shambles and I've read that they are causing lots of issues for pascal-based GPU's. Has made me skeptical of downloading new drivers from NVIDIA now...

At this point only two options exist

1. He is trolling us
2. He is stupid

I have my first bug, I can't pick up any bodies.

I will soldier on, hopefully it is not game breaking.

I fully understand that. Daikatana wasn't a great game but I enjoyed it somewhat with all its bugs. Was funny when an enemy couldn't shoot strait or just sat in a doorway while you shot the living **** out of a super bullet sponge.

The way it works is that game developers write shaders to handle the translation of polygons into coloured surfaces. Sort of like little programs. Most of them are tried and tested but development doesn't stand still so newer games would often employ newer shaders. They'd work but by employing shader optimisation a driver can shorten the process of translating high level code into low level code through the API and gain 1 or 2 ms per frame.

It's not really optimising for a game though. It doesn't usually net you more than a few frames per second extra. I doesn't speed up the game. It doesn't compensate for poor visuals and most importantly it doesn't correct game bugs like cars parking in the tar. It's not something that's done for every game and it doesn't even happen for most AAA titles as most don't try to reinvent the wheel.

Where the fanboyism came in is that just before launch when the glaring issues became apparent and reviewers were reporting bugs and issues with the game running tremendously slow some die hard fans came out of the woodwork punting that everyone should just ensure they download the latest drivers optimised for the game, which is not actually what shader optimisation is as these are just normal drivers and not drivers optimised for any one game.

Most driver releases are actually to fix their own issues. A shader optimisation was never going to fix all the numerous visual bugs. It was never going to fix the slow game response which by many accounts isn't just low fps but also the game engine unable to handle the world they created. Those that punted the driver update have no idea what it actually does and is for.

CDPR really dropped the ball on this one and in retrospect they were supported by a community that looked past the obvious issues. What they should have rather called for is for it to be delayed for 6 months so the obvious issues could be fixed. There would still have been the broken promises but at least they could have sold it for a new price. Now once everything is fixed it would only be worth bargain bin value because it would no longer be new.
My issue is that CDPR management forced the release of the game.
It's not the fault of the developer's as many people seem to think.
It was just about money, and it backfired.

I won't talk too much about game engines and the dynamics of gameplay and drivers. Since I don't have any concrete knowledge of the inner workings as you might have.

Generally speaking I hate buggy games.
I think this game's bugs are acceptable to me, since I've been prepared that they are there.

I have an idea what you are saying.
Just looking at Outcast released in 1999 and remastered as Outcast Second Contact a while ago, shows me that games and engines are able to be improved with newer technology.

Pretty sure I never said it sucks, It's a good game but a bit too barebones for me to pay R800* for it.

*Yes there are cheaper ways to get it but im not a fan of jumping though hoops.

The pirate comes through....

Prove it.

<edit>
Shiat... 100+ hours in and still playing... I need a head wound... .
Prove it yourself. It's general knowledge. There's multitudes of articles:
"After three delays, we as the Management Board were too focused on releasing the game," CDPR joint-CEO Adam Kiciński said during a recent conference call addressing the issues with the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game
