Cyberpunk 2077

People Are Getting 'Cyberpunk 2077' Refunds and Getting to Keep The Game

CD Projekt RED offered to refund anyone, including people who bought physical copies of the game. And so far, they don't have to send the game back.

Perhaps the most interesting promise CD Projekt RED made last year was that anyone who purchased a physical copy Cyberpunk 2077

would receive a refund, even if they were unable to return the game to where they originally bought it. CD Projekt RED set a deadline for this, asking that all physical refund requests had to be submitted before December 21.

This promise brought with it a lot of interesting and weird questions. What do people do with the discs they bought? Do you just ship CD Projekt RED your copy of Cyberpunk 2077? What happens if you bought and redeemed a digital code from a retailer? And in that case, are you asking for a refund from someone like Microsoft or Sony...or a retailer like Target?

Weeks later, the company is starting to make good, and as expected, it's pretty weird!

VICE Games spoke with several Cyberpunk 2077 owners who submitted requests to CD Projekt RED in December, and have since been issued those refunds, largely via PayPal.

It's rare for a video game to arrive so broken that its developers are forced to publicly concede defeat and encourage people to return the game and ask for refunds. And while Cyberpunk 2077 isn't the most broken game that's ever been released, a combination of deception on CD Projekt RED's part and the weight of expectations caused a unique storm, prompting retailers like Best Buy and GameStop to reverse long held policies of refusing to accept returns for games people had bought and played and give them their money back.

Yes, that's a PayPal transfer to someone for nearly $300, a refund for the collector's edition of Cyberpunk 2077 that retails for $250. (The extra money comes from the added sales tax.) That someone is Steve, who asked to keep his last name private.

The collector's edition of Cyberpunk2077 comes with a ton of stuff, in addition to a copy of the game: a massive box, a detailed statue, a map of Night City, stickers, an art book, and more. The person who received this refund has not had to send anything back, including the game. They continue to own the collector's edition, while having been refunded for buying it.

This must be exploited like crazy. I am sure many PC gamers kept their GOG copies as CDPR cannot really do anything because they, well, endorsed it.

Playstation made the right decision to stop the sales, and CDRP should have also issued a date, but it seems people may pursue this route until throughout March,

Not everyone who requested a refund has heard from CD Projekt RED yet, but the form says the developer expects "to be contacting gamers who filled out this form throughout February and March 2021." One person heard from CD Projekt RED while we were talking about how they hadn't heard from CD Projekt RED, so they are, at the moment, working through the pile.

so did CDPR make enough money to not even care? News like this will make legitimate buyers bitter.

Lol after v1.1 patch I'm now getting “Whoa! Cyberpunk 2077 has flatlined!”

Fsck this schite, uninstalled for now will try again a bit later.

Apparently you get it if you have some tweak mod installed. If you uninstall that then its fine.

Yes, the current Cyber Engine Tweaks are incompatible, but others claim to run into the same issue without any mods installed. I also believe CDPR is trying to kill the debugger because most incident cases are related to players who exploit their game.

There are other issues, both the Delamain and Takamura quest line is now broken, or more broken, pending on who experienced issues with these quest lines. It seems that patch 1.1 introduced looping phone calls which is road blocking quest lines.

People are really pissed about the loot drops. Many would kill enemies, save and reload, as the item rolls changed every time. Now there is no roll changes with saving and reloading. Strictly speaking this is an exploit, but people liked the exploit. Some are really upset that they can't roll maximum slot legendaries any more.

The save game issue is now worse than it have been, or so people say, because it seems that the trim update is breaking save games. Again, I believe this may be due to save games being modded.

Modders, and those who use mods, won't like the current situation.

Don't have that. I uninstalled the game and started a fresh install just before leaving for a braai, I'll check later what happens.

Im still not bitter

I tested the patch now. I won't know what is new or better since there is nothing to do in my game anymore, however things seem like always. Checked my save games which are happily all there, my new save games are exactly the same size as my old save games so I don’t know what they mean by trimmed… Checked my modded (or exploited) save out as well, nothing, everything is still there and a new save is the same size as my old save.

So incompletable quests are still incompletable quests. Inventory stash is still missing, as expected. My companion is still hanging around. Vehicles still handles like schit. The game is still unbalanced.

I tested the in-game exploits, the buy/sell exploits, and they all still work as normal. All I did now was basically to bag another quick million. I didn't have time now to check out the complaints regarding the item rolls, but will do so tomorrow.

There was one oddity, Kerry called, and though he was subtitled he didn't say a thing though I could choose dialogue options. My quest line with him is completed and I think the messaging has also run to an end. I believe this is also an old bug in the game with people calling. Anyway, this incident didn't matter, but was something new I haven't experienced, and I believe I had this conversation with him previously going by the given dialogue options.

Just give me new game mode + already

Patch 1.1 was a damp squib as far as I'm concerned.

CD Projekt suggests potential workaround for game-breaking bug introduced with Cyberpunk 2077 1.1 patch

Save yourself.

Cyberpunk 2077's 1.1 patch appears to be causing additional bugs, once of which is game-breaking.

The game-breaking bug relates to the quest Down on the Street. This main story mission sees V meet with key NPC Takemura at the Channel Street docks in Japantown. As part of this quest you must wait to receive a holocall from Takemura, and it's this holocall that appears to now be bugged for some players. Takemura will call, but remain silent, simply staring at V. Here's how it looks:

This bug prevents the quest - and progress through the main Cyberpunk 2077 story - from continuing. It's a big problem.

CD Projekt has issued a potential workaround for this bug as it looks into the issue, but it requires an earlier gamesave. Here are the steps:
  1. Load a gamesave before Takemura and V leave Wakako's office.
  2. Finish the conversation with Takemura outside the office right away.
  3. Right after the finished conversation and when the quest was updated, skip 23h.
  4. See if the holocall triggers and the dialogue with Takemura starts.
CD Projekt will want to issue a hotfix for this one as soon as possible, I imagine. Patch 1.1, which focuses on stability improvements as opposed to quality-of-life, balance or AI reworks, hasn't gone down particularly well with players. The developer has said it will continue to focus on stability improvements in patch 1.2 and other updates, while fixing bugs.

The Delamain quest line is also still borked, well some may be experiencing 'potential' issues with it.

At first I was "where's all the NPCs?!" but after travelling.. .all good.

Had no broken quests so will maybe roll yet another game to see...

Somewhat smoother experience now. Vehicles still steer like drunken cows

Cyberpunk 2077 gets official mod support so gamers can fix it themselves

Life in Night City is about to get more interesting…

Cyberpunk 2077 has now got official modding tools, so while there are plenty of mods around already, you can expect a good deal more to pitch up soon enough.

CD Projekt Red released its modding support tools alongside a brief note which promised that continuous updates would be provided alongside game patches, therefore hopefully avoiding any thorny compatibility issues.

Speaking of patches, Cyberpunk 2077 has just received its first patch of 2021 which applied numerous useful fixes – but sadly also broke something rather critical in the main quest line, although there is a workaround available.

As mentioned at the outset, there are already a bunch of third-party mods out for Cyberpunk 2077, including one (pictured above) which allows you to play in third-person (rather than just drive in that view). Although the initial incarnation of this mod was rather glitchy, the bug fixing is already underway…

Hopefully now that there are official tools, the life of modders will be made considerably easier, and as you might guess, there’s been some chatter about how this could be a great launching platform for dedicated players to start improving and even fixing the game themselves.

Though this is ultimately good news, the community may beat CDPR to producing new content. We have seen Bethesda monetise exactly this, but I don't believe CDPR will, however, this may mean that there is a chance that the community must become reliant on third-party modders to provide anticipated DLC.

The attached EULA is an interesting read,

which must abide by their Fan Content Policy,

SECTION 4 - WHO OWNS THE FAN CONTENT I CREATE

You own the new, original fan content you create. However, since your fan content is based on our content, we may want to show it off on our social media, make it available to other players in our games (e.g. in case of your mods) etc. In order for us to be able to use and transmit your fan content we need you to give us certain rights over it. So, we kindly ask that you give us from the moment of creation of your fan content a non-exclusive, permanent, irrevocable, worldwide, sub-licensable, royalty-free licence to use, modify, reproduce, create derivative works from, distribute, exploit, transmit, perform and communicate your fan content in connection with our games. From our side, rest assured that if your creation stands out we will do our best to reach out, have a chat and grant you appropriate recognition.

Just to be clear, the content from our games (e.g. characters, setting, gameplay and appearance) is and will be still owned by us.

In my view, I won't mind seeing the modding community actually giving the game we want, though I am sure that CDPR will assimilate said content, but I am sure they will give credit where due.

CDPR shuts down Cyberpunk mod that let players have 'sex' with Keanu Reeves

Always use a Johnny.

In a somewhat inevitable outcome, a new Cyberpunk 2077 mod that allowed players to kinda-maybe-halfway have sex with Keanu Reeves has been quickly shut down by CDPR.

Created by one Catmino and hosted on Nexus mods, essentially it allowed players to manually swap character skin textures onto other models, and Johnny Silverhand is one of the skins that can be shuffled around in this way: specifically, onto a sexbot called a joytoy.

Johnny Silverhand does have a few saucy scenes in the game, but these are seen from the player's perspective. The mod creates a pretty bad approximation of having sex with Keanu, to be honest, because the character remains dressed and doesn't have Keanu's voice (it retains the Joytoy's voice lines). I mean, I haven't had sex with Mr Reeves so I don't know, but I'm guessing at some point he takes his pants off.

The mod was spotted by Eurogamer earlier today and, shortly after that story's publication, was removed from nexus mods with the following explanation: "Clearing things out with CDPR."

PCG contacted CDPR to ask what was going on, and received the following statement: "Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can’t be harmful towards others. In the case of model swaps, especially those that involve explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077." CDPR will understandably not want to harm its relationship with Reeves, as his character could return in DLC or other forms.
