Cyberpunk 2077

Look at the controversy surrounding Last of Us II

What controversy specifically? I had a look at the wiki and don't really see anything that seems to rise to 'the fall of Naughty Dog'.

They crunch their dev teams much more than most other developers. Also fans not happy are very likely not to trust them in future.

The crunch thing has been known for a while, hasn't it?

I recall Jason Schreier has written about it quite a bit, but it was an issue with this one, too.

But don't quite see how this can be them having "fallen" if it's not a new problem.

These companies make billions of dollars and forget why people spend their money .They fired the female creative of the first game, the game that everybody loved and was critically acclaimed, because she wasn't on board with the trans-lovefest. The story is a blemish on the greatness of the first installment.

Blizzard, Bioware and now Naughty Dog. As the saying goes, you gonna learn.
Meanwhile a small polish studio CDPR is now Europe's most valueble game developer. And in Cyberpunk you can do all kind of weird crap with your genitals, but there's no hate. Which goes to show it's not bigoted hate, but context and stuffing out of place ideologies down the audience's throat that players reject.

I didn't mean to derail this thread with Naughty Dog, there are enough discussion and diversion about that elsewhere. Not to take away that that CDPR is also clouded in crunch controversy with management who embraced said crunch culture. Jim Sterling did a video on that, anyway, back to the Cyberpunk weapons,

Cyberpunk 2020 was introduced back in 1988, it was inspired by Hardwire (novel) and Blade Runner. Though Cyberpunk 2020 / RED are works by Pondsmith which is also directing 2077 I do see CDPR make some comparisons to Deus Ex and Syndicate within their discussion boards. There is a lot to draw on. This all reminded me about BioForge which came out in 1995, and neuro networks are key to many creations set in this setting. Newer titles like Shadowrun and Observer will also add to the cyberpunk experience.

EDITED, I had the Cyberpunk 2020 date wrong  I am actually interested at obtaining the original whichever revision is available, but it seems to be now succeeded with the new RED version.

I'd rather not have them make comparisons to Deus Ex if it can't live up to them. Deus Ex was more than just a cyperpunk setting in a dystopian future, a LOT more.

It has more to with universe building than the IP per se.

Anyone seen the recommended specs? :crying:

In any case, maybe if we stop amping ourselves up the game will exceed expectations? :D I feel like the game is being over hyped, probably because there's not much else that's overly amazing on the horizon.

Sure but my point is it was a whole new genre defining philosophy. You have this big name game which John Romero claimed "will own you" that turned out mediocre at best and then out of nowhere in a different country the same studio quietly releases this little known title which nobody has been able to mimic. It's best not to make comparisons or big claims beforehand lest they backfire.

I think CP2077 can be a great title all on its own without setting a high bar.

Yeah that does seem to be the common talk, even being compared to the Crysis meme. Why I won't be playing it till 2030 probably. I don't even know what half of those are.

The Cyberpunk 2020 IP is still rather unique, but CDPR is drawing on inspirations, and it is talked about within their GOG community board. Syndicate introduced us to corporate, or organisational, wars and takeovers. Deus Ex did that through story-telling elements, with an emphasis on societies and how augmentation impacted said societies and individuals. This is what cyberpunk is all about, and it cannot be ignored by a title which has cyberpunk within its own name.

System Shock, SIN, etc. are all original titles within the time Deus Ex hit the market, and they are all unique within the cyberpunk verse.

However, and to a point, I think you are getting at, is that Cyberpunk 2077 shouldn't redefine cyberpunk.

I wonder how much truth is still in this Twitter post because I have noticed various media outlets elaborating on CDPR's traditional method of monetisation by selling paid add-ons.

If they do release multiplayer which we still don't know in what form or shape it will be, and we do know that they plan on selling skins, there is a possibility that the singleplayer DLC will remain free funded through the multiplayer component.

Good thing I didn't pre order.
I'm running a struggling I7-7700k quad core. Plan was to upgrade before launch, but thanks to covid 75% salary those dreams are shot.

I believe Tom’s Hardware is overexaggerating. The article is hinting directly at Ray Tracing and DLSS 2.0, and then concludes the current supporting tech requirements. Then they add,

However, that's only a guesstimate as we don't actually know how demanding the game will be. If you're not worried about ray tracing, you could also drop down to an RX 5600 XT and save about $30 while getting similar performance.

Despite what we've listed above, what we really want to recommend is an RTX 3080 Ampere GPU or an RX 6900 XT Big Navi GPU.

I think a 1660Ti/1070 and perhaps even a 1060/RX 580 should have this game playable. It like they are expecting everyone to run 4K with DLSS.

CPU is another story, but I think this game will be happy with 6 cores.
