Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 released the patch notes early, I wonder why... long list, so I am not going to snip it.

Finally! Some balancing is done.

Huge patching is applied to the missions.

and I was always told that there is nothing wrong, and that I am imagining these 'glitches', no bugs.

Not too much patching here,

STABILITY AND PERFORMANCE ACROSS PLATFORMS

This section discusses changes that enter all the platforms but many of them make a bigger difference on last generation consoles and lower performance machines.

Multiple performance improvements, including:
  • Dynamic Resolution Scaling improvements.
  • Improved framerate consistency, resulting in fewer hitches and spikes, especially during combat.
Various streaming improvements, including:
  • Fixed a streaming issue affecting performance in the City Center district.
Memory optimizations and memory management improvements in various systems (reducing the number of crashes). Numerous crash fixes, including:
  • Fixed crashes that occurred when loading a save file after the car combat sequence with Arasaka agents.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred when waiting for Thompson before leaving Atlantis in Never Fade Away.
  • Fixed a crash that occurred after turning off and on the "Crowds on Minimap" option in Settings multiple times.
but I would expect more optimization to be done in due course as CDPR is working on the next-gen console patch which should enhance the PC version's consistency as well.

I see the patch is live. It is the most comprehensive patch to date. Those who wish to play the game without running into borked missions, the time is now. I would assume some hot patching to happen now and between the next-gen console patch (not a PC patch, but improvements will be made to the optimisation in general).

Hot patch,

14 more DLC drops are still to be expected. Patch 1.3 did drop some. At this point in time, people shouldn't expect any expansions, as it is reasonable to believe that the next-gen patch has been moved up to late 2021 or postponed to 2022.

It is not going to happen unless they go the nms route and fix it in a few years. It is already like 1 year later since launch? almost?

The author of the video makes a good point about that. No Man's Sky is a sandbox game, and the developers can cut and change as they wish. Cyberpunk is tied to a linear story campaign, if you make changes to the game it might affect the story, then parts will have to be rewritten. All they can really do is to make the open-world more open, but the game is really an immersion sim, which is made less immersive with every update, and not a real open-world title.

I see they have started to enlist modders for fixing the game. On this point, the game already has a new director and I don't think that they will compromise on the integrity of the story. If anything will be changed to the linear gameplay it will come in the form of an expansion which separates itself, but it may also be that CDPR is cutting their 'losses' and they have already made major profit from the game, and cut the game off once the next-gen patch is released. Delivering on existing promises, and then move on to greater things for the company.

Last generation console players will never get the game which was promised, unless they upgrade their console, though they were the primary market during the game's entire development cycle.

I enjoyed this and had a near flawless experience on my PC. That was in the month of release. Is it worth patching, updating and replaying now? Especially considering I had a decent experience stability wise.

I'll probably play a different route story wise.

Running a 3080 RTX 64GB ram and a top line i5. Forgot the model.

New waves are being made with CDPR posting employment opportunities online,

Cyberpunk 2077 dev CD Projekt Red hiring for a new open-world game

Just last week, a job listing was posted to GameJobs.co, seeking a junior/specialist open-world designer to join CD Projekt Red at their Krakow headquarters in Poland. The job listing is specifically after someone who can "fill our game world with believable and exciting content consisting of communities and events that [the] player will encounter."

it is already rumoured that CDPR has cut online multiplayer, but did they cut online play? I am curious since the posting mentions "communities" and "events" because these are known gaming as a service terms.

I own the game, bought it twice, so I don't mind this addition, but I am over the "battle pass" servicing.

It is looking like CDPR might redeem this game through online servicing, and yes, it would mean that Cyberpunk 2077 is likely to be monetised, but we all know CDPR will never do things like that, they promised, except that we have seen that CDPR is taking the company in a new direction with their strategy update,

I may be wrong, but as someone who played GWENT I have seen how that game evolved into pure monetisation.

Say it does happen, people will complain and people will eventually make peace. This is not about you, CDPR wants to make Rockstar money. GTA Online is a cash cow, and CDPR wants in on it. The positive being that Cyberpunk 2077 will be enriched with more content.

So... OT, but relevant. By now it is obvious that CDPR wants to take their IPs online, and there is a distinct indication that Cyberpunk 2077 will include online mechanics, like bounties, time-limited events and whatnot, so their stance on this matter isn't unexpected,

GOG responds to backlash following release of Hitman

Company says it “will not tolerate review bombing” in response to online requirement for parts of the game

Game store GOG has responded to criticism sparked by the launch of Hitman - Game of the Year edition, and the fact that some of the game's features require an internet connection.

According to Eurogamer, GOG initially advertised that the game didn't need an online connection to play, which sits in line with the platform's "DRM free" policy.

Hitman's main campaign and bonus missions can be played offline, but content including Elusive Targets, Escalation missions (bonus levels and challenges made by developer IO Interactive) and user-generated Contract missions require an online connection to play.

Customers expressed dislike for the move via reviews, leaving negative feedback relating to the online requirement. One user called the store page "extremely misleading." Another noted that playing certain game modes offline means players cannot unlock new content.

GOG responded to the complaints in a statement on the site's forums, encouraging buyers to refund the game if necessary, while stating that review bombing Hitman is not acceptable.

"Thank you for bringing this topic to our attention," a representative wrote. "We're looking into it and will be updating you in the coming weeks. In case you have purchased Hitman and are not satisfied with the released version, you can use your right to refund the game.

"At the same time, while we're open for meritful discussion and feedback, we will not tolerate review bombing and will be removing posts that do not follow our review guidelines."

The company has also added a new disclaimer to Hitman's page on the GOG store, which notes that the aforementioned content requires an internet connection.

Dear GOG community!

Thank you for bringing this topic to our attention. We’re looking into it and will be updating you in the coming weeks. In case you have purchased HITMAN and are not satisfied with the released version, you can use your right to refund the game. At the same time, while we’re open for meritful discussion and feedback, we will not tolerate review bombing and will be removing posts that do not follow our review guidelines.

I am personally not concerned, but the market should brace as we are moving ever more away from ownership towards services.

To quote Adam Oldakowski from some years ago,

"We would do everything to make the game available at GOG.com without DRM. The DRM-free aspect of GOG.com is one of our main features and we're really proud of it. The games we offer are probably already easy to get on torrent sites, but we believe gamers would prefer to buy their products legitimately than pirate them. They just need a good reason to buy those games and we give them those reasons by selling games at low prices, optimized to run on modern operating systems and adding great bonus materials."

the thing is, GOG like most others now don't want you to buy their products, they want you to subscribe to their service.

Lol, this I expected some time ago already,

Don't do public roadmaps, don't sell your product based on promises!

I do have a critique, to quote,

Apologies for the extended wait, but we want to make it right.

Please stop. This is exactly the same sentiment they had when they stated that Cyberpunk 2077 will release when it is ready. They are stepping right back into where they were with the market...

Just wait until the game goes online, because I know it is coming.

Meh. But if it works out for the best then I suppose it’s fine.
Not like there aren’t lots of other great games

This man was correct.

Lol, at this point in time it seems to be going to be 'ready' somewhere in 2023 taking what is being planned under consideration. CDPR was very clear some time ago that they want community events in this game, and community is nothing other than gaming as a service, and a service means that you would need to be connected hence going online. Online components are coming.

I am sure that we will only see game expansions once the next-generation update is ready, perhaps released with an expansion, but the question is whether the expansion DLC will be a drop or paid content? What I am sure about is Cyberpunk coming to Xbox Game Pass, since there is something brewing between MS and CDPR. So yah, many beta testers between release and coming to a gaming service, and I am certain it will rub some people up the wrong way.

According to CDPR’s CEO, they are already working on the expansion…

My issue with CDPR at this time is that they have started to remove negative comments on GOG and their Forums, especially in regard to the online debate. I don’t have an actual issue with the online component, but I would hate Cyberpunk content locked behind timed community events, and when it has lapsed that you need to buy the new content. I know the GWENT grind all too well. Just don’t ruin single player with PvP, but perhaps there will be separate worlds, like Rockstar is doing with GTA.

To quote Forbes,

Cyberpunk is now replacing the formerly GTA Online-like system that was scrapped after being in development, and is a multiplayer concept focused on co-operative play. It’s described as a “small MMO.” But there are no guarantees that this will see the light of day and is the furthest thing down the road.

I won't mind co-op, but CDPR is a Corpo now and will want to 1) multiply their Cyberpunk revenue streams and 2) maximise their Cyberpunk revenue streams.

OT,

Since CDPR has gone public not too long ago, they have been grabbing up studios. They have now announced to have acquired The Molasses Flood, the people behind The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow. Some being original Bioshock and Halo devs.

Like their previous acquisition, Digital Scapes, which works on multiplayer things (which I am sure has been acquired to work on Cyberpunk 2077's mini-MMO, it seems these studios won't merge with the CDPR dev teams, but will remain separate.

With this current announcement, it has been stated that TMF will already start to work on a new game based on existing CDPR IP... unless it is acquired IP, it can only really be The Witcher or Cyberpunk RED, but TMF seems to specialise in survival and base-building games, so it will be interesting into what genre CDPR will be expanding into.
