Cybersmart First Impression!!! Terrible

Sheesh - I'm with CyberSmart at the moment, but all this negativity puts me right off. Time to switch ISP I think... The general consensus is that obviously CyberSmart doesn't cut it.
And those terms and conditions scare me a bit. I use about 3 ISP's, CyberSmart being one of them, and if my account sees so much as a trickle less in the stream of bandwidth, then I guarantee you, Laurie, my bank will be the first to hear of the immediate cancellation of the debit order to your company.

They don't accept immediate cancellations. You need to give one month's notice......

I think this should be a lesson everyone should learn, both end users and ISP's / providers / hosts.

Terms and conditions are set in place to protect the company offering the service more than the end user. It's not a binding contract though, since no legal contracts have been drawn by a lawyer or signed by either party. Yet, they will force you to abide by their terms and condition, or blacklist you. Telkom has the nack of doing this, and it makes a dent in your life. We had a case where we received our telkom invoice 3 days after it was supposed to be paid. Needless to say, even after we paid it, they still blacklisted us, and it costs us a lot more to clear our name. Why be so pathedic & childish? Yes, I agree, fruad is a big "money-maker" these days in our country, but it's not fun being treated like a criminal if your honest & inocent.

To hosts / providers & ISP's alike, please listen to your clients's needs and make something off it.
To end users: read the terms and conditions a FEW times, if you feel unconfortable, don't agree to it. Even if it's not binding and the law, you will get nailed, and you probably don't have the cash / time / resources to take them to court.

Question: Is CyberSmart at liberty to simply blacklist me on grounds of supposedly breaking their terms and conditions? Also, when blacklisted, across what range of ISPs does this span? In fact, would you care to explain the concept of blacklisting to me please? Thanks. :)

This is very amusing :D Then people wonder why there is so many startups that turn to failure soon after. Client Service. Sometimes the biggest challenge when it comes to client service is to swallow your pride

Yes, Cybersmart may have "odd" terms and conditions but if they dropped those terms and conditions and had to employ more support staff to handle the extra load that would force them to put up their prices.

The fact is they are one of the cheapest if not the cheapest ADSL ISP in South Africa and if all you want is dirt cheap ADSL connectivity they are the winners hands down.
Show me another ISP that comes anywhere close to R125/month for a 384kbps 3GB account.

If you want ADSL connectivity on your terms then please do us all a favour and go and sign up with an ISP that allows you to have things on your own terms instead of moaning and bitching about Cybersmart's terms and conditions.
Don't be like the man who goes to an Opel dealership to buy a Corsa Lite and then rants at the salesman because it can't do 0-100km/h in 5 seconds.

With regards to bad customer support - yeah that needs some attention.
I e-mailed them and got a quick and pleasant response - tempers don't flare as much via e-mail. :)

Likewise, I just signed up with them too. I signed up via the website, I got my log in details within 30 secs via SMS. Sent my debit order form through, got response that all is in order. When I signed up with Openweb, I had to phone myself to get my log in details, no sms or e-mail. And the first time I phoned, I held, the machine asked me to leave a voicemail, and when I tried, it said mailbox is full... No one is perfect..

Openweb are awesome too though

I just read through the faq and conditions on their site. Man what a bunch of f@#knuts. They not going to last long...mark my words. I will never sign up with such a bunch of arrogant pricks.

My 2c's. ;)

Sorry for the hate speech....deal with it.

I just signed up with CyberSmart and what a breeze it was with their automated system!
No waiting in long telephonic queues. 60 minutes and I was done and that included rewiring and reconfiguring my network to UTP (I was still using 10base2), configuring the Billion 5102 and signing up with CyberSmart with my old 56kbps modem (which I had to search for - was using ISDN before the upgrade). :D

So far so good and at the end of the month I don't have to be bled dry just to have e-mail access and web browsing.

Now evidently the hard part will be to get rid of my Telkom ISDN account.

people like that are full of ****. one sure way to lose customers. The worst guy I dealt with at webafrica was just a bit 'slow' and used quite a bit of jargon - but no major complaints here, service has been quite good.

Been using Cybersmart for a while now and i honestly cannot complain, they are excellent, service, pricing and support. Hope they dont go anywhere any time soon cause i wouldn't want to use another ISP.

Satisfied customer.

Yes the terms and conditions seem a bit restrictive. I told myself I would try it out and see how it goes, I could always leave if I did not like it.

The signup process was pretty straight forward and fast. Not long after I signed up my account was locked. My mistake as I left a digit off my bank account number, I would have appreciated a simple call to tell me there was a a problem with my account info althought you could argue it's not their responsibility. I call it going the extra mile :)

I must admit they could sound a bit friendlier/happier on the phone. No one has been rude to me yet. Geez, make me feel like the girl Sonja(Sonia) from Avis at JHB Intl. airport once did, I was going to propose right there and then.

For what you pay you really cannot complain. I've had two outages because I've been capped, no problem, top-up & roll-over.

I'm plenty happy paying R125/3GB on a 384kb line. You simply cannot beat it and the network is using SAIX which is another good thing.

Read the terms and conditions, if you don't like them go elsewhere and pay the asking price. I recon cybersmart will suite the needs & pockets of most adsl users just fine.

Yup I am happy with them, I don't know about their tech support since i've only coresp. once or twice with them via email as i don't require help.. well unless something funny happens and thats when saix is stuffed.

Anyways I just noticed my connection session timeout is back to 24hrs :) and was wondering if this was done to all. now if i can just manage to set it to exactly midnight i don't have to worry about it again.. tonight i remembered late and now its at 00h30 or something.

Oh well.. 2ndly I notice something strange also odly in the last day or two.. when connected for a brief time period you drop internet connectivity almost like a session timeout but not quite as your ip remains the same and the session/pppoe does not drop. Is this a saix change OR is it them taking the initiative(saix/Telkom ADSL max session max is 24hr). hrm maybe its a glitch.. but it was definately weird. I'm thinking saix tho cause my stats seem to update on the userstats page too. annoying when you playing a game tho maybe tomorrow i can tell..

You guys are talking ****
I am a satisfied customer of Cybersmart and their service is GREAT
My connection from Telkom was not setup correctly and I thought it was cybersmart...I called them 4 times n they still POLITELY helped me. I just think you tryin' to cause ****

Regards
SATISFIED USER

Thanks for dredging up a 3 month old thread to share that insight. :D Personally after reading their website and its various "conditions" I wouldn't touch them. Just wouldn't want to deal with a company with that attitude, but that's just me.

you honestly think we got nothing better to do than start **** for cybersmart..... LOL . My experience is that their service sucks!!!!! voicing my opinion

Everybody knows they use SAIX don't know what the issue is. I've been with them for over a year now and did not have one single accounts mix up like had with the favorite myadsl isp on several occasions.

Also what is the worst that can happen if they decide to enforce their terms and conditions...they can cancel your account well that will be their loss not mine.

Even if they didn't want to tell you, you could just buy an account and do a couple of tracert's to figure it out, not exactly top secret!

You shouldn't have to do that, as we all know SAIX has better intl and IS has the news server and 30GB local. I would like to know what kind of product I get. Aren't they supposed to tell you what your buying? When you buy a car, you'll want to know the brand and model.
Ah well, I cancelled my cybersmart account last month anyway.

No you shouldn't, I'm just saying its not exactly as if they could keep the info from their competitors so there's no reason not to tell you.

Btw, if Cybersmart buys it bandwidth per gig from SAIX why do they charge differently for the different speeds?

I have two accounts, one with openweb and one with axxess...They're both cheap, great support, friendly etc etc etc.

No problems with either of them
