Good Day,:D

I came across this via a buddy of mine and I have tested the “FREE TEST ACCOUNT” I have 2 DSL lines, one for my “Downloading” and one for my gaming. I set up two of the test accounts to see what Cybersmart is worth and I have to say… I am impressed. Done the testing to the MAX and have gotten much better performance during my testing than I have from other providers…
Firstly, I am a hard-core gamer and a hard-core Downloader LOL So speed means everything and the speeds of these accounts are great….

Guess where I am going to…good speed plus the supersize add on looks like a shweeeeet deal…

Really

I know :p ...but you have to let Cybersmart manage your line as well which is a no-no for me.
This is why I'm going to try use all those test accounts that Laurie listed as my own personal supersize

Okay so what is wrong with having an ISP manage your line....isnt it more convenient to have it that way since you only need to speak to them for anything concerning your ADSL

Therein lies the problem. I bet I can do a much better job in following up with faults than some call centre jockey. You want something done right, do it yourself. Now if your line is good, then I don't see an issue, but just pray it stays that way.

^^ Do not believe this.

I had my line\circuit with Cybersmart... and with every query I had regarding just the line, their frontline heldesk zombies would insist I run through all sorts of ABC tests before they would do anything about my line request. It did not matter if I was reporting a LINE fault, or requesting a port reset... I had to run through their checklist first. It also would end up with me having to deal with Telkom anyway, but could not do it directly, even though the line was mine... if I approached Telkom 1st, I would be referred back to the ISP and Telkom would then wait for their fault report before they could action anything... and when there was a Telkom line fault Cybersmart would refer me then to Telkom in the end anyway.

In almost all cases, I ended up having to jump through two hoops, ISP frontdesk and then the Telkom 10210... twice the issue and twice the frustration.

The tipping point for me was when I requested a port reset, because OpenWeb had suggested I do this, and the Cybersmart helldesk zombie insisted I reset my modem to default settings and also reset my router to default settings and then reconfigure it with him on the line. He would not budge on this. He would not transfer my call to another zombie-bot or his manager... and I ended up losing my cool completely and destroying the telephone in the process.

It also took about 3 years to get them to release the line back to me, as they insisted they would cancel the line completely and I would have to re-apply for ADSL through Telkom again.

Never again will an ISP get my line.

Okay I get your point, but have you seen the post from Cybersmart's CEO Laurie that mentions exactly the problem that you did. Apparently there were some staff that wanted to cash in on stopping a cancellation and when it was picked up heads started rolling so migrations happen as they should be. From my experience with Cybersmart their support has picked up quite abit and in my opinion is on par with most ISP providers and in some cases better....speaking from personal experience here....but to each his own...

i guess i just prefer having my ADSL dealt with by one party and my telephone, (which i never use yet have to pay for) handled by Telkom. Just makes life simpler...

Anyway back to OP's original post...is anyone using any of the test accounts???wanna get some feedback on how it is performing, gonna switch over to one this evening when i get home to "Test" by downloading a few things;)

Uhm, your post sounds like you are posting from the wrong mybroadband identity.

Well I tested out one of those test accounts in gaming and I haven't seen as steady-a-ping from my Web Africa or Afrihost capped accounts, I still wonder what the home uncapped products would be like compared...I was victim to a horrible experience with them about 1,5 years ago with regards to speed and latency and it would take a lot for me to test it out again.
The capped products - well I don't see anything that matches my 60GB + 60GB for R199 - and I don't want to move my adsl line anywhere. I'm quite impressed with the test though...

Cybersmart doesn't refund Telkom fault downtime

I have found it quite a problem to have Telkom and a separate ISP with your DSL line speed and data. I have Telkom with the phone line and Cybersmart with the DSL line speed and data. Cybersmart will not refund me for fault downtime when I have reported the fault with Telkom. I have had lots of downtime over the last couple of years, probably equivalent of 4-6 months of downtime altogether. Cybersmart refuses to refund me anything and so does Telkom. Therefore, I have cancelled Cybersmart and will just go with one provider. That way I can have everything refunded when there is downtime.

my adsl line is with Cybersmart since 2007. had some problems in 2008 but not since then. if i had a problem i usually contact Laurie directly and its fixed immediately. i also get my line rental much cheaper than telkom. my data are with VOX, WebAfrica and Axxess. and i'm happy... although VOX suck lately!
