For all those naysayers claiming the DA is intent on getting rid off AA and BEE.

Furthermore:

"BEE as it is currently constituted has created significant distortions in the economy, which have hampered growth and job opportunities without helping the poor," said MP Kobus Marais, DA spokesperson for finance.

BEE is obviously being excessively abused and, yes, it needs a review.

Interesting:

"In essence, wealthy BEE partners are hiding their gains behind the claim to mass empowerment, when in fact the parties who make up the 'mass empowerment' receive comparatively little," he said.

The DA have always said BEE/AA is an "economic and moral imperative", however they have always been very ambiguous as to how they are going to implement this. And considering that their policy statements on all other political issues are clear and straight to the point. You can understand why people are sceptical about their intentions.

If correctly designed and implemented, not only will it redress the imbalances of the past but it will pull more people into the economy, stimulate competition, improve our skills and productivity, raise our domestic investment levels, reduce poverty, increase employment and broaden our tax base."

The above is what they ALWAYS say, but I have yet to see, how they intend re-designing it. Becuase what I saw in their economic policy document is already done, and anyone that does business in SA will tell you so. So the DA choose to go after the rating agencies and IMO, they question their credibility.

But if you read the document, you will see that they put no proposals whatsoever as to how they are going to re-design BBBEE. So dont believe their media statements, READ their policy documents, which coincidentaly includes the paragraph I quoted above. So they are just providing scripted responses to questions without really providing answers.

The DA have always had little to no say in the redesign of BEE policy, as such they have the luxury of being vague since they have no need to put any policy into action (yet).

My post is just to indicate to those who claim that the DA is intent on ridding our country of EE/AA that this is definitely not the case. It is not justification to encourage others from not voting for the DA.

Perhaps when the DA have a greater percentage of the vote, they will flesh out their vague promises a bit more.

The ANC makes vague promises and they're actually the ruling party. All they have stated about BEE is "they know it is problematic and needs a review". Hardly the stuff of leaders, right?

The DA has been a lot more concrete about stuff they are expected to win and be able to control; they have effectively, in the past, put these policies into action and have had no problem expanding on their promises and providing above adequate solutions to the problems they have been given charge of.

So, yes.

IMO, its becuase they do not want to commit themselves to any stance either for or expressly against the policy. So in that way they keep everyone happy. So, their "traditional" voter base think that this BEE madness is going to change, and they tell the voters they want to attract exactly what they want hear. Which is BEE is good, so it will stay if we come to power.

It will stay in some form or another, diluted or changed completely to work for the people it really should benefit (i.e. not big business). This is at least something I can accept; and if they didn't put it into action I would become a detractor of their policies.
 
People give the DA too much credit.Think they will go into power and things will quickly change?(5years)
BEE and AA are here to stay,be glad you are not getting shafted by it yet.

Yes, for the better. We can only hope they once day are awarded power.

Oh, BEE has shafted my BEE company on many occasion. Just an African Broederbond; not better than the National Party policies of the 1970s and 80s.

Or it's actually a signal from the DA that they support the idea of BEE (or whatever you want to call it) but are merely fed up with the way the ANC has abused it for its own purposes.

Of course, with the bulk of the white population screaming about how they've been marginalised thanks to the ANC's implementation of BEE, the DA can't support it outright. That just wouldn't make good political sense.

Capable as they can be, the DA is just another political party and should be viewed as such.

Most parties haven't outlined an adequate and comprehensive policy regarding BEE. Why? They know the ANC will merely steamroll any ideas they have through parliament without concern for any other party's ideas.

As such rather spend the time and the energy on formulating policies that they may have some degree of control over and are able to implement. As for those policies that these parties cannot change, merely make suggestions about the best course of action to garner support. When push comes to shove I have no doubts about their ability to formulate a much more in depth policy.

I feel there's no better time for the DA to formulate an in depth alternative policy. They know the ANC failures, so they should be vocal about alternatives.

so yes it has "worked", but the whole idea still = fail

Somehow I think the majority of those middle class millions would prefer if their achivements were attributed to their own hard work and perseverence rather than AA/BEE :rolleyes:
