Where can I get a damage report for a PC struck by lightning for insurance?

So went in holiday and left my PC and router connected to the internet so that I can remotely access the PC and could access my security cameras.

On the 12th of December, JHB seems to have had the mother of all lightning storms and took out my PC and my modem. Went and bought a new power supply thinking that it was the reason the PC wasn't powering up but turns out it's more than that. The PC is completely dead, HDD's are fine (thank goodness) but seems the rest of the PC is dead.

Insurance needs a Damage report from a computer company and then I need the quotes on replacements.

Went and asked at incredible connection and they don't provide such reports.

So where can I go?

Matrix Warehouse has done one for me previously for a fee (can't remember the exact amount but I guess a few hundred) a few years ago.

1st things to do: backup your hard drive or store it away, don't power it up anymore, unless backup is made. It can die in few weeks period without warning.

Re: Invoice. Go to small PC shop and ask for full replacement quote for this computer in writing. Online professionals will be happy to do as well. Good if they have registered company. Ask them to fax directly to insurance company giving them your claim number. Insurance company might send assessor to inspect damages.

Incredible Connection were happy to do one for me last year, odd that they won't do the same for you, perhaps their policy has changed or it depends on the branch?

Alternatively, perhaps see if you can call "Nerds on Site" to come do an on-site inspection. You should be able to claim the cost of the assessment from the insurer. I did so for my TV.

At Matrix warehouse now. They busy running diagnostics and will give me a report.

Hope it's a complete wreck. Would hate to mix and match parts.

IC guys looked disinterested in helping though, so it may have been laziness.

Chances are the internals are mix and match parts anyway. What kind of PC is it?

Nothing wow but kept me going.
i5 processor, 4gig Ram, Nvidia GPU.

Built it myself about 2 years ago and don't play games. Just something to handle my downloads and DLNA to rpi.

Got a damage report from Matrix Warehouse in Fourways Mall. Techie there Peter was super helpful.

Everything is kaput so got a quote on a new box too.

Now hopefully insurance plays it's part. Always wary of claiming and having it rejected for some arb reason.

Maybe except hard drive.
You are in Foutways, very close, donate not working components to sajunky. :)

We do fault reports and quotations for insurance. For the last 12 years we have had no fault report rejected by any insurer
