How is the 0803 working out for you...?

So far all seems OK. I removed the 0801s and replaced them with the 0803s (into the 0801 GPS mounts already cabled in), and have left them in since the shipment arrived a few weeks ago. I've once checked the cam in my car, while waiting for Steers delivery, and all the clips seemed OK. But I must confess I haven't checked my wife's car at all. I listen for the chime when the engine starts, and occasionally check whether the blue LED is flashing - it is while recording - and so assume all is fine.

Will post a better opinion once I get round to checking.

I recall them costing more but for a full HD camera the footage looks really good.

Will have to ask and revert. I've only tried 32GB cards formatted in the Mini 0801/0803, which work fine.

It would be great if the 0803 can use a 64GB Class 10 MicroSD: there have been a few times now when I've tried a few days after the fact to backup footage that I wanted to upload to YouTube and post in the bad drivers/driving thread but have found that it has already been overwritten on the 1 minute loop setting.

One thing that is a bit weird with both the 0801 and 0803 is the occasional noises they make whilst I'm driving, I suspect that it could mean that the G sensor triggered and the camera locked the file it was recording at the time.

I did try upping the G sensor setting, I think I set it to 4G or 4.5G on my 0803, but it still beeps and seems to "lock" recording files for no apparent reason. AFAIK I made sure that the movement detection setting is disabled.

I suspect that the beeps happen when I am driving around a curve (I'm not entirely sure), if that is the case I suspect that the G sensor might be the mechanical spring-loaded type which can knock against the sides of the cylinder that it is enclosed in when subjected to angular motion.

Interesting. I've never set the G sensor on the 0801 or 0803. Head over to www.dashcamtalk.com forums and you'll get quick answers. There's a user called Jokiin who seems to be connected with the manufacturer.

Also looked at TakeAlot. Cape Town branch allows collection on Saturdays and it's cheap @ R200/32GB. Now for pay day and returning the SD one to Makro.

It's a direct competitor to GoPro 3 action cameras (actually better in my opinion - better image quality, water/splash proof without needing a special case, rotatable lens, wrist wearable remote control, bullet style is better for wind resistance, etc.)
It's on my shopping list - I just can't justify spending that much at the moment.
It's not really meant to be a dashboard camera.

Well it does have car DVR mode, so I presume it could work as good as an actual Dash Cam.

It works great as a dash cam. But I commute on my bike, so this is perfect as my "dash cam" I looked at both, GoPro and the Drift Ghost S, and the Drift is better in most ways. yes the GoPro has better after sale service and probably more attachments, but this was quite a good deal as other places sell it for well over R5000, with Action Gear selling it at R5995. So Takealot is actually quite well priced. The GoPro Hero 3+ Black is it's direct competition and that is also not cheap. And as noted by Paul_S the Drift is waterproof up to 3m without any extra protection. Will upload some clips onto the Tube to share the picture quality etc.
