Dashboard Cameras

Okay, well, yesterday I got mine from Top CCTV (Somerset West) and it's awesome - they even set it up for me.
I tested it this morning and love it - takes a bit of getting the hang of.

Even the program (PC) - GPS info, speed, etc etc HD quality video - so cool.

R1991 incl. 32GB SD card.

A R1000 for a dashcam is nothing if you consider how invaluable it could be if things go wrong.

I know but I am hoping one of you guys know of a decent one around my price range
 
Tbh I hardly see dashcams being used by the motorists on Cape Town roads...

Any idea why; are we just delayed to jump onto that ship & realize the importance of them...:confused:
 
They record sound right? So anything you say can and will be held against you in a court of law?
 
Yesterday I switched from the Anytek AT550 which I was really happy with until the charger stopped working...
Takealot (As usually) very quickly and efficiently credited me for it so I went for the popular CC-DVR-GSV2-FL from Eagleye instead because of the GPS module.

Looks - The Eagleye cam is slimmer and i quite like that but the AT550 looked a bit better

OS - Seems to be the same on both.

Power adapter - Quite important to me since the thing is sticking out of my cigarette lighter adapter.
The adapter for the AT550 was horrible! big and bulky
The eagleye on the other hand has a slim adapter with a 2.1A USB port on it that is concealed when need be with a fancy cover. That was a brilliant addition since the USB port on my car does not charge my phone properly

Video quality - quality on both is quite good. 1080 30fps. The AT550 has a better viewing angle at 148 vs 140 but that's not even noticeable...

GPS module - The AT550 does not have one. the Eagleye GPS connects very quickly and speed shown on the video seems to be spot on!
It also has a GPS logger shown on a map when using the bundled software (Not tested yet)

Mount - The At550 was easy to attach but the power cable made it look a bit messy.
The Eagleye has a brilliant modular connection. Suction cup is mounted with the power cable plugged in to the GPS unit that is attached to the mount. the cable fits in form the top making it easy to conceal and looks very tidy!
The camera is then attached to the mount and gains power form it so no having to plug in any cables :)

Other features - The Eagleye has a timelapse feature which is awesome!

A go pro is an action cam not a dashcam.

I have a mini 0806 dashcam, brought from www.dasho.co.za and it works very well. Cheaper than the gopro and it probably does exactly the same thing. I start my car and drive off, it record. We're both happy ;)

I use it in a racing car, by the way. Nothing wrong with it.
