OK, I just got a pay-as-you-go for my E220 for data access only. Fine, to load bundles I have to take the SIM out and then put it into a phone, I can live with that.

Data bundle expires in 30 days. It's theft, but everybody else is equally robbed, so there's nothing I can do.

I have one thing I don't understand - I loaded R210 worth of airtime, then bought a 500MB bundle, costing R189. Now, MTN on their website says that this gets renewed automatically after 30 days?

First they steal all the unused data, then force you to buy something that you may not need? Why are these rules not in place for voice pay as you go? 30 day expiry, automatic recharge?

Can someone please explain to me how it works?

Thanks.

No there is an option for a once-off bundle purchase. If in doubt, just use a different SIM - they are cheap enough. A collection is known as a 'SIM farm'.:D
If you are quite an active user, 500 will go in less than 30 days, especially with an E220. If you need another bundle, just haul out a new SIM from your farm.

Thank you.

You say "there is an option for a once-off bundle purchase". I loaded the airtime and the bundles through the *141 process - *141*6*500# for the bundle. Would that now be a once-off, or a rewnewable one?

When you dial 141 and select the option to load a data bundle the voice ask you if you want "once off" data bundle which expires in one month or "data bundle subscription"

Correct, and if your 30 days are not up, it won't mention loading a data bundle at all - that's a way to tell if you can use that SIM.

welcome to your south africa.where daylight robbery is the norm

i can definitely say that we will be getting bundle roll-over within the next 12 to 15 years. </sarcasm>

anyone official from MTN read these anymore?

shoot me for being logical, but what sense is their in the 30 day / bundle limit if clearly the populace know how to get around it?

all they created now is a truck load of potential numbers gone a begging cause some dude somewhere has made a bean bag chair from all his unused mtn sims???
