Hi all,

Has anyone had the problem of your data cap vanishing??

I just went out (with all my devices switched off or out the house) and came back and 300MB had disappeared from my balance.

I went through 60GB last year and now it is only 1/2 way through the year and I only have 700MB left. I thought it might have been my usage but seeing my balance deplete before my very eyes makes me think otherwise!

Corruption is rife within both fixed line and mobile ISPs. Insiders steal data from users who don't use their allocated amount. I have witnessed this at Telkom and on Voda. Report it. It should stop.

How exactly does said insider go about doing this? Usage gets logged to eg. an ADSL port with fixed lines. Unless you as an employee have deep level access allowing eg. changing of logs I just do not see how this is possible. In every case I've ""investigated"" on behalf of my clients it was either normal use/malware/updates/unsecured wifi/delayed usage reporting and maybe once where the business rules (system) expired a promotional bundle too early.

Maybe I'm just lucky? :D

Don't know the ins and outs of mobile ISPs, but my friend lost about 7 gigs over the course of about 6 months. Only when she started using skype and received a delightful month-end surprise on her bill, was she even aware that data was being used.

As for Telkom, just 'acquire' a username and password.

It must be said that in all cases that I have seen, there has been no malicious intent. Stealing is stealing though.

Insiders that can steal data can easily just create bundles for themselves. There's no reason to do something that will attract more attention.

@MikyMouse: If you're really sure your data balance is disappearing without any device being able to use it you might be the victim of sim cloning. Call 8.ta and have them check the IMEIs of all devices that connects using your sim. See if there's any on there that does not belong to you.

Great thanks Swa, this should be easy enough to identify as I only use one modem to connect so anything other than this is not me

Thanks bromster I have already emailed [email protected] and still no response

Hi bromster, re read post from Id13 and hope Jannie does not get on to your case.
Trust me.

Are you using WiFi and could it not be your buddy next door surfing at your expense?

This happened to me so I put a 20 code password in.

Hmmm the thought did cross my mind - just changed mine to 22 characters long lets see what happens
