Datsun Go! Thoughts

Yay!!!!

"Datsun has used the SA Festival of Motoring as a platform to launch its latest budget offering, the GO+ MPV

It has been two years since Datsun made its comeback to the South African market with the budget-friendly (and popular) Go compact hatchback. Now, the GO+ has been introduced adding some versatility and roominess to the lineup.

The GO+ will be offered either as a 5+2 family MPV (7 seats in total) or as a panel van, named the GO+ Panel Van. Vincent Cobee, global head of Datsun was at Kyalami for the unwrapping and said, “The plus edition of the Datsun GO, will create its own unique sub-segment (within the upper A-segment/ lower B-segment), as a versatile multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) offering motorists exceptional value, fuel economy and maintenance at an attractive price. These have all been the hallmarks of Datsun since its re-entry into the country.”

The GO+ will continue to use the same 1.2-litre petrol unit as the standard GO. A total output of 50 kW and 104 Nm hardly seems much for a vehicle that's intended to carry 7 people with luggage, but we'll hopefully be able to test the GO+'s abilities for ourselves soon. Speaking of luggage, with the rear seats folded (5-seater mode) the GO+ is claimed to offer a very reasonable 347 litres of load space.

The major drawcard of this MPV is the price, Datsun has set it at just R134 900. Compared to other 7-seater MPVs like the Toyota Avanza (R214 700), Honda Mobilio (R207 000) and Suzuki Ertiga (R189 900), it’s extremely keenly priced."

Other standard features available on the GO+ include:

A choice of five colours, including gold - a new option unique to the Datsun GO+
Driver’s side airbag
Air conditioner
Drive computer
All-new dark interior
Mobile docking station

So they now want to put even more people in danger with a larger death trap. Datsun are on a roll, and people are lapping them up.

Datsun SA expands its local range with the Go+

The Datsun Go hit the South African market a little under two years ago. And despite us being wary about the fact that it lacked basic safety equipment (such as ABS and airbags), it still saw respectable success in terms of sales.

As a result of this success, Datsun has decided to expand its range here in South Africa by adding two new models, both of which are based on the Go hatchback.

The Go+ is what you get when you take the standard Go and stretch it into a seven-seater MPV. Aimed to compete against the likes of the Honda Mobilio, Suzuki Ertiga and FAW Sirius S80, the Go+ MPV and Panel Van will be marketed as affordable family and commercial vehicles. Datsun, however, claims that these new models effectively create a new segment (upper A-/lower B-segment).

The Go+ comes standard with a third row of folding seats, a claimed luggage capacity of 347 litres (with said perches folded down), air conditioning, a trip computer, a mobile docking station and, perhaps most importantly, a driver’s airbag. It is powered by the same 50 kW 1,2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine as the hatchback, with a claimed fuel economy of 5,2 L/100 km.

The Panel Van, meanwhile, bins the rear seats in favour of a durable galvanised steel surface, along with a mesh divider to prevent cargo from flying into the cabin. It also comes equipped with “spinal support” seats, electric front windows, dark smash-and-grab window tints, remote door entry for the rear hatch which is also equipped with upgraded gas stays for a higher opening aperture. The total loading weight and capacity of the panel van is a claimed 542 kg and 3 430 dm3 respectively.

The Go+ MPV is priced at R134 900 and the Panel Van at R149 900.

WTF? That is not even proper English??!?!?! Why not just make the advert in Xhosa/Zula etc etc?

They choose to use that style of English. Their tv advert used to say something like "Why girl like him? Because smile? Because shirt? No, because Datsun".

:wtf: WTF did I just see there on their home page

datsun safe.jpg

and reading through them is even more bizzare...

The solution is not only to survive accidents but to prevent future accidents. The Datsun GO, ahead of the rest in safety, has been distinctively engineered to avoid real-life accident scenarios through innovative features. The Datsun GO is up for the challenge to make every day driving safer for you.

WTF is a spinal support seat?
With a staggering 20% of all accidents arising from sleepiness behind the wheel, driver fatigue and alertness is a major safety concern. The Datsun GO, luckily, comes prepped for such occasions with spinal support seats designed specifically to help reduce fatigue and aid driver alertness – diminishing the potential for accidents to occur.

READY, SET, STOP!
They say speed kills. In reality, it’s not the speed that kills, but rather a sudden stop – into another vehicle or object. The solution? To stop before a crash situation arises. The Datsun GO is equipped with ventilated disc brakes that allow it to come to a complete halt in just 33m from 100km/h, helping to better handle emergency situations in both city traffic, as well as on highways.

Didn't know they had any??
The Datsun GO's safety features result in a safer, more secure drive; but the bottom line remains that most vehicle accidents arise due to human error.

Well, it's probably safer than driving a bike
