dBASE/Python Developer

I don't think it will ever quite stick. I want to get the ball rolling on moving us to Python ASAP.
In that case you probably want a Python developer, more than anyone with dBase skills; taking into consideration that you want to switch ASAP, and for the fact your existing developer has dBase skills.

Why not cut out the custom Dbase layer and implement some kind of integration software to convert client feeds to the data format of your choice?

I want us to revisit the entire platform and build it up from scratch with a solid foundation and "supported" language.

Yes and no, her workload at the moment is piling up so my hope was to have someone dive in and help with the work. Yes to getting a Python dev, should probably start a new thread for that though..

Yeah I don't think that's going to be an easy find; why not just find a Python developer who is willing to learn dBase during the cutover. It's a pretty basic language, so any moderately good developer shouldn't struggle to get up to speed with the basics in a week or two.

That was the backup plan-it would have been great to have someone who could dive right in, but then again, where's the fun in taking the easy route? Will create a thread for it though so I keep things separate.

Super disappointed that the guestbook is no longer working. Probably wont be making use of his web design services for that reason.

Haha! His music links still work though. I think you are making a bit of a hasty decision here, music on a website, something of a visionary he is.

Sure, but practically anybody who is still keeping their dBase skills up to date, is most certainly not the kind of developer you need to build your new API driven backend.

I had quick glance at the dBase language reference again (after 20 years); there's really nothing in there that should have a good developer in knots.

Are you a Dev by any chance?

Yes, but our schedule for this year and quite a bit of the next is pre-booked... and to top it off I'm currently in Singapore, and have my next engagement for Sweden is already planned for mid November.

Bookings change, Singapore has internet. I am not seeing the problem :D

Jokes aside, bugger! But wish you all the best with your projects!

Updated thread title, Python devs, if you fit the bill, please make contact :)
