Hi, Id like to introduce myself.
I have recently got my new telkom homeDSL and want to learn lots more about DSL. I've upgraded from 56k and for now things feel great.

The first Question is
How do you use DC++?
I connect to "za.redirectme.net" get the welcome message, get the user list on the right. Then I right click a user and select "Get file list" Then it tries to connect but always fails with "Connection timed out"

What am I doing wrong?

Secondly
If I download lots early in the month will it affect my my Cap? should I only use DC++ after my 3 Gigs is reached.

Thanks alot
Jason

Hi JB, & welcome.
Firstly, do you have the latest version, [0.668], the version prior to this one had a bug, so collect the new version at sourceforge.net.
Install the app, run it, run through your settings, make yourself an "active user" as opposed to a "passive user", set yourself at about 4/4(d/l +u/l), select "Public Hubs", wait for the list to appear, pick one with a few thousand users, & download whatever u want, restricting yourself to legally d/loadable stuff of course :)
If you're restricting yourself to local hubs bcoz of the cap, manually type in the local addresses, here r a few.
Sheiz, can't find the list. Trawl the forum, its on a post somewhere.

Having had another look at your post, it might well be the active/passive thing, i think 2 passives cant d/l from each other, so give it a bash.

sometimes it works, sometimes not.. just keep trying on other days

Check your firewall settings, if your using XP SP2, make sure you have put DC++ on the exception list. If your using a router enable port forwarding or allocate a DMZ machine.

Also check your firewall settings - set these to "medium" as most firewalls will not aloow DC++ to work properly with security set to "high".

I use DC++ 0.403 without any problems - locally and to international hubs when not capped

ok, I got it working most of the time. I changed to passive and now its ok most of the time. Thank you for the input ;)

Now that i can connect it sucks that i have to share *30GBs* on ZA net. Thats seem like telkom logic to me, that amount is insane.

active is muuuuch better, u get more sources to DL from. If u need help WRT it just shout out :)
