Why the sad face ? - did you want me to stay with them ?
:)

I got a call from the call centre this morning, surprisingly, but my call blocker must've blocked them !

Checked they hadn't reinstated my service, behind my back, because it was likely "Retentions" ?

Think they usually call after cancellation to try discuss it, find out why / change your mind maybe.. happened to me a while back after I turned off a spare account, can't remember the details but I cut it short.

Pity they don't try that hard BEFORE people give up on them.

Think that's most big companies that think they have everyone, until they don't.

So need a special dept to try turn things around.

I still have the DStv satellite dish up.

Was thinking this morning, after reading OpenView's FAQ and looking at the channels they offer, to maybe get a decoder of their's as the dish is probably pointing at the required part of the sky to pick them up.

The channel selection isn't the greatest, for an investment of R1k - R800 for the decoder + R200 for something else, I forget what, now.

e-Movies is about all it's worth + The Home Channel.
France 24 is on YT, and then there's SABC ........

There's a better free streaming alternative that may suit you, will edit in the 2 links shortly.

I just juggle my streaming options for entertainment - I cut the cord with Monochoice way back before 2010 - so I activate Disney+ every few months or so (they recently had a 3-month discounted deal @ R 49 a month - I think it ends this month) and I maintain Netflix (R99 sub) & Prime Video (both mainly for family members) & YouTube Premium (for myself) as recurring subscriptions.

Update - Just checked - my Disney+ 3-month discounted offer expires on 13 Dec 2024 - just cancelled my subscription before it reverts back to R 129/month again)

This is how "on the ball" DStv are ; you cancel the service, and then they send you an e-mail - they want to "know you better" through a survey.

The answer's "no", I won't be participating "after the event".

Itโ€™s really strange to me that weโ€™re in 2025, and many people are still paying for DSTV! Despite their streaming issues and high prices, people continue to pay. Iโ€™ve been using IPTV since November 2021, and itโ€™s much cheaper and way better. Plus, IPTV providers respond quickly, value their customers, and fix any issues with you. They even add the content you want (live TV, series, movies). All you need is a good internet connection. But before you pay for an IPTV service, make sure to test it with a free trial. Iโ€™ve tested many services before finding the perfect one, which Iโ€™ve been using almost for 2 years now.
