I wonder if MC are considering dropping the older online guide, still no sign of useful life there and now all other African countries use a version of the newer one instead..

Not terrible if it happens, the newer one has improved through the years.
But they sometimes don't update its channel listings for months, the synopses' side details are too lacking compared, and only the older one offers needed-repeats info for the second week - that's very needed by some with all the loadshedding chaos.

The plot thickens - attempts to access the older online guide this morning results in......

HTTP Server Error 503

No available server to handle this request

Dstv now has not worked for at least 4 days now on my shield.

Is it them saying buy our media box, or just the usual incompetence?

Another Explora message-advert overnight. This one is for their own product - a new Big Brother show; flashing light on the front panel, but didn't have an on-screen icon.

I suppose that could be lived with, but

Days 13 and 14 missing on the newer online guide.
(Older guide presumed trashed)

My Explora 3B failed on Wednesday
Went to GAME and bought an Ultra for R1800
Made a note of the serial numbers of Primary and Secondary decoders
Installed Explora
Signal quality 96%, strength 100%
Called MC
After speaking to 5 different people, lady asked for Serial Number and UIC number
After 20 mins, still "No subscription" and XtraView not working
Another 3 calls to MC, last fellow says "I can do nothing, call installer"
Installer comes Friday, finds installation 100%
He calls MC and has to call back 3 times as MC's call centre is clueless
On last call, I hear him say over and over "You are not listening"
Look on screen, no Xtraview
Another 2 calls to get it right. "The link he is broken" installer hears
Speak to supervisor at MC, name Lindiwe. She is not interested and asks "What do you expect me to do?"
I reply. "Your job for which you get paid"
She cuts the call

Luckily everything is repeated 800 times so you don't actually miss anything :p
Not as much as it's believed. Know someone who can't use catch-up much, and as a result is struggling to get some series episodes due to heavier loadshedding.

Posting this for general knowledge, too late for chrisc.

It's an old issue - when replacing an old decoder (even one that doesn't work anymore) make sure they FIRST break the link between the original decoders on their systems. Only after should they attempt to create a new XtraView link arrangement.

For some reason most of the help staff aren't taught this, or don't remember it.

Except for 115 which is an after thought for 101. That you'll be lucky to have 1 repeat slot and somehow they manage to hit all your load shedding slots. And start 4 episodes in on the season on Catchup. Every other channel will be repeated for all eternity.

Missed Mission Impossible Fallout due to loadshedding. No repeats. I've about given up recording anything that isn't for normal viewing. One good thing about this loadshedding when it starts hitting the times we normally watch, it prolongs the programming we do have.

Shall we call time of death for the older online tv guide? You know the one that is actually laid out in a readable way?

They did add chs. 109 or 110 (package dependent) to give repeats to cover loadshedding if Catch Up isn't helpful to you, BUT.... for soapies only

Yep, and one of their final nails in the coffin for me - we're starting to leave the service.

Moral dilemma, would be interested in any opinion.

There's a movie on ch. 137 TNT, couldn't record the end due to power blackouts.
Nearly a month later it's finally being repeated, and again the end would be lost for the same reason :(

It's not available on Catchup. And I don't use things like battery laptops / smartphones.

Do I just continue to accept the loss, or is it reasonable to consider it acceptable to now find it free on the web?

Go find it... if you'll feel more comfortable, then I'll go find it, download it and give you a link to download it from :D
