Hi folks

We are looking at opening a dedicated hardware and software support forum where professionals can answer all your support questions and give advice. It will basically be a partnership between MyBB and an IT support company where they will give free online advice/support to our members.

Can you please give feedback about this idea? What would you like to see in such a forum?

I think it can add lots of value rpm, but do we really need an external company to answer our questions? Perhaps we could escalate something really weird to them but for me, there's enough help over here atm. I wouldn't mind a seperate forum though.

1) will us Joe Publics also be allowed to give advice? :)
2) How will we know what these guys qualifications are? :D
3) How can anyone in South Africa afford to do something for free? is it funded by advertising?
4) Will we ever find out which company is the partner?

... I'll give it a shot though... it sounds like a good idea.

They can start their own site and then advertise on here.

Interested people will click-thru.

We have enough members to help each other.

yeah I cant think of an issue I have had that wasnt eventually resolved...

think we are a clever bunch of folk here! :D

if it did happen, you would have to limit who could post in there though? cant have any noob going and posting rubbish

What is wrong with the current way things are, i think most people get their stuff sorted out already.

Same here. I have not had an issue that myBB has not been able to fix. And quickly. And I have had a lot of issues.

Interesting idea, what will the qualifications of the supporting professionals be?

It'll make me kinda redundant :p

I personally think it'll further divide the IT forum. If you take away the hardware/software issues, what's left? The news gets posted here, and new rigs get shown off every so often. So this should be the Hardware News And Brag subforum or similar :D

Just thinking out loud but . . . I think we've already got some of the finest support available on hand here already.

I don't think rpm wants to implement this as a fix, but rather an improvement.

I'm just curious as to how the remaining subforums will be handled if something like this is implemented (purpose of the subforum, etc). I'm afraid that it may divide the IT subforums too much, in my opinion...

Why fix something that is not broke? The forum is working perfectly fine the way it is.

I am not even sure why you split the hardware and software sections, it was working pretty well the way it was before.

A lot of the time the trained IT guys know less than the Joe shmo who tinkers with IT for a hobby :D

Well yea it will divide it, this section offers tons of support and advice, some it BS at times but then people also learn when what they think is correct is shot down.

I cannot see why things need to change, it is not as if we all guess when trying to help, sometimes we do hehe but for the most part you will solve your problem in this section. As grim says dividing the hardware and software seemed silly to me as your now dividing the help.

There is no improvement to be made if anything that will be a step backwards.

rpm, are you by any chance bored? :p It seems you are trying to do many things today :p

I agree with what most have said - we already have all the support here and the system and it's members are just fine.
