Defective New Scirocco R

I've had my engine replaced by VW. Took about a year for them to admit to the problem and eventually replace it (Its shocking how dumb the agents think you are).

Good luck though, will spread your story and hopefully you get a full refund. or at least a new car.

Standard SA tactic is to act dumb... and actually imply the customer is stupid.

Have you given much thought to what you're going to do if the tracker turns out to be the problem?

Very true, I at least have a bit of a technical background and picked up very quickly. Always take anything a dealer/salesman says with a pinch of salt! It pays to spend a few minutes googling to common problems.

In the very unlikely event that it is the tracking causing the problem it will come down to two things :
Either the company that built the tracking units screwed up, which I doubt since they have whole fleets running these units
Or the car has one or more other electrical and or electronic issues. I have two units in my car, one of which has CAN and I have no issues. Sometimes a week goes by that I do not drive it and there is no battery drain.

No idea to your earlier question Mr Rouxenator, I live in JHB.
In any case I have designed such trackers before, on a test I left my car at OR Tambo for 2 1/2 weeks, came back, still started no issues.

Or the installation was cocked up.... something came loose, rubbed against something else, which pulled a wire out which is now causing interference to the flux capacitor.

Just curious as to what the OP plans if it was the tracker, personally, I don't want the **** in my car - I don't like something hidden in my car which involves splicing wires or messing with the nuts and bolts. I'll be happy if you can give me a standalone unit, which is battery powered and magnetic, I'll hide it myself :p

Waiting for Discovery Insure to take the crap out so I can move back to a decent insurance provider, they've now taken long enough on the Hilux that its sold and gone - so I'm guessing I'll have to fork out R1000.

My friend's dad bought his wife a new RAV4 last month. At 750km, he noticed a small oil leak, which turned out to be a defective seal somewhere in the gearbox. Toyota said that no damage would have resulted, but he requested a replacement vehicle. They agreed to provide a replacement vehicle. As soon as the correct model and colour is available, it is his. They fixed the seal issue, and they are driving the original vehicle while they wait for the new one.

That's proper service.

O, when the car went in to determine what was causing the leak, he requested a car for the weekend, as they were going away. He said that he does not want a vehicle older than the one he just bought. So they gave him a RunX from the floor, with something like 10km on the clock, for the weekend.

I work for Toyota we have guys that really crap on the dealers for bad service ....The japs are sticky about service and quality but like someone just said every car company has their momenta but that is very bad service from vw

So what would you say about Toyota SA taking over 2 weeks to get a fairly major part in stock? I've had a bearing on my car's propshaft go and allegedly the replacement will come into stock on Friday. I've been without a car that's not even 2 years old and with 30k km on the clock for about a month now. Toyota SA just shrugs. Pretty peeved to be honest and would love to escalate the matter to the Japanese, as I'd be pretty screwed if the car wasn't still under warranty.

My installation is pretty clean and I know where the units are located. Currently my main focus is to test configuration sets on them so I need access to them. Add bonus is I also got a couple of bucks discount from M&F on my insurance.

Lets see if the car works once Netstar pulls the unit.

What model and I will e - mail some peeps and which dealer pls...will see what I can do...

I honestly doubt its the tracker. I have spoken to Netstar and tried to get hold of a tech for a solid answer but as far as they are aware this particular unit, Stealth Plus, only draws a power from the vehicle. I have no choice as to whether I want it or not as my insurance requires a tracking unit to be fitted.

The faults thats being logged by the vehicle is "Bank1 running lean". For those not into cars, this means the combustion thats occuring in the cylinders has more air than fuel. Everything points to a fuel or air intake issue. The fuel pressure sensor was replaced initially and it was found that the oxygen sensor was running 2 degrees out of spec and was subsequently replaced as well.

I doubt the tech screwed up the installation with one wire... Scirocco's have been in the country since 2009, and the Scirocco shares its dash with the EOS. Chances are the tech has more than likely worked on this type of dash/vehicle before. VAG cars are mostly the same anyway. The amount of parts that are interchangeable between their cars are crazy.

During the first repair the dealership did contact me for Netstars contact details. They wanted to check if the tracking unit was causing the problem. I assumed they contacted Netstar and ruled out the tracking unit as they replaced the fuel sensor after that repair. I have no idea why we are going through this exercise again.

That said, if it is somehow the tracking unit installation, VWSA will most likely absolve itself from all responsibility. With their attitude at the moment I dont expect any sort of goodwill gesture even though its their product and they should have picked up the problem within the first month. I will then need to relook at my options and possibly get Netstar to take responsibility for their botched install.

I highly doubt its the tracking unit though. I'll provide feedback tomorrow once NetStars Quality Control checks the vehicle out and/or removes the unit.

Is this with the GT86?

It's an 86. Toyota Gezina in Pretoria is the dealer handling the issue. The dealer seems to be coming to the party after I made a big fuss but lack of parts availability seriously makes me reconsider keeping this car or any foreign assembled Toyota, for that matter. I've been given a rental on Toyota's dime but I'm sure that wouldn't happen if the vehicle wasn't under warranty, making this a truly expensive experience.

Ingition on tracking units are no different than any other device in your car. They have internal batteries to do post trip uploads and will enter some form of low power mode after that until the next ignition event.

In your case there is something wrong with the engine, maybe injector or something else.
