Hey guys, so I bought this fridge/freezer combo in sept 2018. Was running fine until mid 2020 when it started giving issues - loud compressor, defrosting them refreezing, door leaking water & display flashing. Seems there is a gas leak & we have to keep refilling the gas every 4 months. Right now the buzzing of the compressor is driving me INSANE!

So I'm looking for recommendations on another fridge freezer combo that will be issue-free for the next 8 - 10 years. I know they exist, but I don't want to waste money testing out various brands till I find one that will work.

Please could you tell me which you use & are totally happy with?
The width is about 910mm and height is 1785mm

Really appreciate any suggestions TIA!
My fridge is attached below:

Also on this hunt. Looking at the Bosch 505l, would be good to hear if anyone had experiences with these.

I've had the 324l Series 4 Bosch unit for about 2 years now. It does what it should and has not missed a beat - very happy with it.

Yup, I guess lesson learned with Defy products.

I've had a Samsung unit for just over 6 years now, runs exceptionally quiet and is actually frost free (I've never had to defrost it manually).

Any indication on budget? I always recommend Samsung appliances as I think they are the best.

I have a reliable Fridge (3 years), Dishwasher (4 years) and Washing Machine (5 years) from Defy, no issues.

Some like Hisense, although I had a dud Fridge that I had to return after 1 year.

My parents have a few LG appliances, they also seem reliable.

I consider most appliances to be reliable, they are all very similar, maybe you were just unlucky.

As with your Defy, stick to the frost free ones.

Probably forgot to send you the memo, everyone stopped buying Defy years ago the brand isn't what it used to be.

Also, when you buy a Bosch, make sure it says manufactured in Germany..
As opposed to? Need to check this now, as Hirsch has the Bosch that we looking for at a good price. R12k for 505l combo fridge/freezer

Buy anything name-brand (Samsung, LG, Bosch etc). Stay away from generic no-names like KIC, Defy etc.

Even some of the name-brand stuff is sometimes problematic, but overall a much better chance of something that will last.

I have both an LG and a Samsung myself. The LG has been running for 16 years without missing a beat. The Samsung for around 10, but it did need a dud sensor replaced about 4 years ago. One cannot really ask for more.

but the unit he is complaining about, is a side-by-side ??
Can we define side-by-side?

His is basically a combo, except the configuration is horizontal. Most cheaper fridges are "side-by-side" but in a vertical configuration (the ones most of us are used to)

I would consider a separate Fridge and Freezer as standalones.

Side by side as per the OP's unit....

Same.

On the other hand I've had an LG microwave and Bosch dishwasher that both went.

Appliances in general are luck of the draw. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you get a lemon.

Also keep in mind that appliances are incredibly fragile when transported. That could be a factor as well, as you don't know how the delivery guys were driving on their way to you. My dishwasher went after moving house...

What? A lot of people don't have the space for that, not to mention the additional cost.

I'm perfectly happy with my combo unit, it's been brilliant.
Ok sorry I had the wrong name.
Upright fridge and freezer next to each other 2 seperate units with separate motors with seperate doors - but not Defynately give k@k

Think my Defy Eco must be almost a decade old. But it has corroded and needs to be replaced soon. But it is just the old school freezer bottom, fridge top. Already replace the gaskets (was a thread on here somewhere) . So it served me well.

That reminds me, I need to go defrost the freezer.
