Just a quick question
I did Google and search the man pages, but proving a bit tricky.

Say for example I try to install a package "xyz-1.4.7.i386.rpm"
but I get a message saying its dependent on a certain library.
How can I find out which rpm file provides the library in question.

rpm.pbone.net used to have a function that searched your computer to test if the necessary dependencies are installed?

what RPM distro are you running that you have to get the file away from the repos?

Using Fedora Core 2 (Very old I know, but education is always behind the times )
It's part of an assignment question. It asks if I try install a package "xyz-1.4.7.i386.rpm" for example, but get a message that the package xyz is dependent on a library called glib.o.c.

rpmdep <- incorrect sorry.

Strange question as the switch --nosuggest - Don't suggest package(s) that provide a missing dependency.

yum provides glib.o.c should do the trick iirc

that's if FC2 uses yum.

Yeah who knows what answer the teacher is looking for on this one.
Install latest Suse and use Yast would also be a legitimate step and not incorrect.
