Depression.

By the way, Serdep is a generic version of Zoloft.

Anyway, I'm back on my vitamin D trial. I'm taking 2,000 IU per day since Thursday; so far, so good. This time I don't seem to be getting sick so I think the previous time my symptoms were due to something else rather than vitamin D toxicity.

Antibacterial diets

Depression is often a symptom of illness. Many illnesses list depression and fatigue as symptoms. Depression may be the result of your immune system being taxed by fending off bacteria, viruses or other pathogens. In my case, I've noticed I feel more tired and depressed during times when my immune system has to work hard.

I have a theory that antibacterial / antimicrobial diets may help reduce stress on your immune system, which may help improve depression. What do you guys think about this?

What kinds of food have antibacterial properties? Garlic and onions may be two candidates.

You may have a point there. I mostly follow a mediterranean diet, which includes a good portion of garlic and onions. Honey too, has antibacterial properties.

I have the opposite of depression, getting happy for no reason, even when stressed. My moods have a positive effect on my husband though, who suffers from severe depression at times.

Im just gonna stop with the serdep. Battling enough with my weight as is. Ive never seen a psychologist and I dont really want to because some of the issues would ruin my life if it came out. Will see how things go off the serdep. Thx guys.

If you decide to stop, just remember to scale down gradually and not to stop cold turkey.

Remember also that it's good to have someone to talk with about how you're feeling. Don't keep it bottled up inside. It will just fester and grow if you don't let it out.

Any conversation you have with your psychologist remains private. Your SO is not allowed in when you have your consultation.

Talk here, i don't see why we can't say hey i am feeling low or lonely(just examples) today and people can be supportive.

I don't agree that the doctor knows what the best meds are for people, it's trial and error but obviously the doctor will give you what he thinks, with anti depressants there isn't a way to ensure your patient needs this drug for sure and it will help. You need to know after two or three weeks it isn't helping and go request a different one, google believe me is there to help us and you can walk in knowing more than your doctor at times just by using google.

Don't underestimate your living conditions, you should step outside your life(just look at your life and how your days generally go) and look at what you feel makes you angry or upset and address the situation. Talking about your feelings though is extremely important and so is steping outside your life and seeing what may be causing you to be upset or down. Drugs help but they won't help much if you live in a negative environment.

Google is your friend, google different drugs, see what people say, there is a ton of information and you may end up asking for a drug that your doctor barely knows a thing about. Do you think we should start a thread called official how i feel today? for people like us who have issues? We would need to ensure the mods get rid of the negative people and trolls. No i am not a troll no matter what people say. I am feeling like a boss today, confident, self esteem is high and i changed my living conditions which has helped along with a mood stabilizer and a few other drugs :D.

You don't have to only say happy things, this may be a forum but we can support each other, in the past in this thread i have been bad and i did look like a troll and i apologize for that but i am trying to recognize i am mostly wrong and i am trying to stop being stubborn as well. Copa has helped me even though it may not seem like it, thanx to him i got off a short acting sleeping tablet and onto a long acting tablet, really helped my mood during the day. Copa thanx for defending me when people called me a troll cause we always argue but you recognize i am just stubborn so much love dude :D.

I promise this will be the last post that is so long, i need to stop that as well. Which i will from my next post :D. Have a lekka fathers day.

I'm really glad you're feeling better killa :)

Thanx bro, yea DJ(glad he got unbanned) really is the reason and copa, dj said i needed help and i went and got it. Some say forums are rubbish to get info or get support from but i dunno i feel like this place is my home away from home. Some will always dislike me due to my views in a certain section but to me i carry don't grudges from threads so that is their issue :D. Also i realize now i acted poorly and i was way to argumentative but that is what the mood stabilizer has changed.

You have no idea how a mood stabilizer has changed my life. People who are depressed should try add a mood stabilizer with their anti depressants. K i promised my posts would be shortish so i am done :D until someone replies :p

Good to hear.

Interesting that you mention bacteria since there is support for the theory that depression/fatigue/fibromyalgia is also caused by a lingering infection. Where to get a doctor though that will treat it is the question.

Hear hear. Quitting cold turkey can be the worst thing to do as the brain gets used to the higher serotonin. Tryptophan or 5HTP can help.

Actually there was an announcement about this recently:
http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/changing-gut-bacteria-through-245617.aspx

You've got your approach wrong though - you bacteria in the gut are normal & you definitely don't want to kill them. You just want the right ones. Above link lends credence to the whole probiotic angle.

@ jhbgirl - Sorry to hear you are going through ****. As others have said, please taper gently, and try another medication if needs be. People often have to try a couple of things until they find something that suits.

@ killa, good **** man. :)

I am at a place in my life where I hate who I am, where I think I am unlovable and pathetic, but I hate other people MORE than I hate myself :p

My son and family doesn't count, I love them with all my heart, but I find it hard to grow attached to people, even the really great and fantastic people. All I want to do is to be left alone.

And I'm not even ON any medication :p take that :D

Thanx bro, i know now without a doubt that meds do help and i know for sure a positive attitude helps even more(i am not saying meds don't work so please i am saying trying to see things in a positive way will help) but i have realized some people need to fix the chemical imbalance in order to be able to see life in a good way.(positive way)

I also realize being properly diagnosed and given meds while seeing someone who monitors you for a few sessions really helps, costs a lot though but at least i know i am bi polar and on proper meds that have taken me from a robot to someone so different. I am no longer down for no reason, nor am i having anger episodes and i am not agitated while driving.

Jhbgirl i saw your post where you say you don't want to deal with your baggage but you are extremely wrong, if you do not go and deal with your issues you will never be able to live a happy life. Once you have dealt with those issues and then realize you cannot live in the past you will be a different person. Keeping or burying stuff away will make me feel down but you will not think the baggage is doing it, that is the scary part. You don't realize if you just dealt with it and cried(yes it's scary to deal with issues), you can look forward and never have to look back with fear. People really under estimate opening up and dealing with issues.

You should look into talking to someone random on this forum like copa or swa and i would highly recommend dj perhaps if he is willing, just open up to someone totally random if you cannot afford to pay for someone to talk to. We may be random people on a forum but we are also people with jobs, lives and issues as well, i promise we don't live in our other mothers basement, we are people you see everyday at work, shopping malls and so on. Believe me and copa might not agree but there is no drug that can cure/help someone who is not willing to deal with the stuff they have buried deep down.

If your depression is partly due to certain things you have yet to deal with you won't become some happy positive person because it doesn't work like that. Copa sorry for arguing so much dude, i am going to chang and i will actually ensure i don't argue in an aggressive way, you backed me even though i come across like a fool most of the time :D. I can't change my horrifically bad posting but i can ensure i fix it and change my ways. Grammar and missing words i am working on as well. My mind seems calmer, it isn't racing anymore.

I am going to double post due to the length being an issue for some people, i really could care less if i have 10 posts or 1 million.

Aah well, some people really do need to be on medication to function well. My husband stopped tapering and went back on his full dose this morning. He's been cutting down for the past few months, but after the past two weeks of him snapping at us and little things setting him off and us having to walk on eggshells around him, not to mention the anxiety attack he had yesterday, he woke up this morning and said he thinks he needs to up his dosage. Life can go back to being good again!:)

Yup sadly these drugs are highly addictive and not easy to get off. It is a benzo based medication?

It's cipralex. In his case he's been tapering really slowly, so it's not withdrawal. It's more like the depression symptoms are coming back.
