Depression.

I just... I have to point out: still with the reading issues? Literally the 2nd word of my post, 'chick', and it's 'that guy' from my post? :wtf: Good god, man. :D

LOL i am trying haptic, like i said i am only on day 8 so my concentration is not yet where it should be. Tit-rating or whatever it's called. I will always have reading issues until my concentration is better dude. I am posting with more focus though, making less errors and so on :D. Yea a bit of a cock up no doubt :p

I still think that CHICK is a brilliant example :D.

Sorry, but no. Telling someone with severe depression to keep a positive outlook on life is pretty funny. It's like sticking a plaster over a gunshot wound and telling the person to stop feeling the pain.

The thing that really got me mad, was people telling me that there's a silver lining around every dark cloud.
Clearly they have not noticed an overcast sky with rain pissing from the skies for days at a time.

She's awesome - I'd love to meet her. Anyone who has ever had a dog should read her post on moving house with them. Had me short of breath from laughing.

Killa, are you still on Champix?
Just wondering how the combo of Champix and Welbutrin is working for you ....

Many people don't understand that there's a difference between clinical depression and feeling blue. Yea, it can piss you off when they tell you to be positive and get over it...like it's so damn easy!

I am stopping champix on friday. The welbutrin should cover me from there i think. Like i said it's a process. I could start to become angry and depressed due to no more champix and craving a smoke but i will have to go through the process and see.

Another thing is people with my form of bi polar will struggle a lot more to quit smoking because the anger that i had previously had and still sort of have is multiplied 10 fold, now that i am on a mood stabilizer it might just be the link i have been missing most of life actually.

There is a silver lining around every dark cloud, you just have think there is :D. If you just want to see a dark cloud by all means, each to their own.

I tried Welbutrin for 5 months, had severe side effects though. Bad aggression, the red mist would come down several times a day. Weined myself off and went back to my usual meds.

I have a bit of an awkward question. I'm hoping Copa (or anyone else) can answer. I know alcohol negates the effectiveness of antidepressants. Does marijuana also do that?

From what I've heard, Marijuana is actually a good antidepressant at low doses, but reverses its effect at high doses.

As for every cloud having a silver lining, if you're mildly depressed, maybe. I had clinical depression in high school and it's really not all that easy to sit and think 'hey, at least there's some good in the world.' If anything, it makes you feel even worse because you realise other people are able to see the silver lining, and try as you might, you can't. It's not that you're unwilling to see the silver lining, it's that you can't. If I were able to 'see the silver lining' and 'keep a positive outlook on life,' I wouldn't have been clinically depressed in the first place.

Copa will tell you no because he like his weed as far as i am aware but if can you should try and stay off of any drug on anti depressants if you possibly can. There is something on the net about weed actually being the answer to anti depressants for some people though so as copa mentioned it's something you just have to try and find out for yourself as we are all very different. So no one can really say what will work for you.

Avion, when you were on welbutrin did they also put you on a mood stabilizer or just welbutrin? Was it the slow release and how many mg?

Zewp, can you see a silver lining now? What made you see the silver lining, what drug?

I do not suffer from depression :) My heart goes out to all that do. I do have a reason for asking though if anyone has personal experience with MJ and depression.

Okay, I admit I haven't read all 80 odd pages but came across this post:

Then this year I decided to go to another psychologist again and one of the first questions I asked her was if she is religious. I was very happy with her answer. She prescribed Venlor XR and Adco-Alzam to me.

In this country a psychologist cannot prescribe drugs. I'm sure the poster meant a psychiatrist?

When I went through my depression I tried all kinds of weird things to feel better. During that process I met a few interesting people, albeit off-the-wall crazies. We smoked weed on weekends and had dinner parties from sunset to sunrise. In hind site, I am convinced it was the pot and the crazy friends that pulled me from that dark void. When I think about those evenings and how we laughed at stupid things, I'm still amazed that I managed a laugh or two.
Yip, those were very dark days. Had it not been for Effexor, weed and crazy friends, I would not have pulled through.

Smoking pot could help depression, IMO but moderation is the key. As a rule I have never smoked it during the week and easily skipped weekends when the family visited. Smoking pot when you're on your own is a bad idea but I'm guessing it depends on the person.

I don't know about alcohol though. I've never been much of a drinker but do know that it is a serious downer and the worst thing for someone who suffers from depression.

I think 'negates' is a bit of a strong word, for either substance.

From personal experience, I'd say alcohol is more of an issue than cannabis in that regard.

Alcohol is a depressant, while cannabis is used medicinally by many people to help them with depression (on the other side of that coin, cannabis can exacerbate mental issues, so caution is always warranted).

That said, if your depression is extremely severe, you need to be very careful what psychoactive substances you put into your body, obviously.

My husband is in the process of tapering his antidepressant medication and after reading about the medicinal properties of MJ,I encouraged him to maybe experiment with that (yes, yes, I'm a horrid wife to get my husband into drugs ). Anyway he smokes very occasionally and I don't see any negative effects. I just wanted to know if it increases or decreases the chances of a depressive episode coming on. Thanks for the info guys :)

You will need to test, you are not getting him into drugs. Most anti depressants are far worse drugs than MJ, more like heroine .

You could try make him weed cakes or that type of thing, much easier than smoking and he can get his dose anywhere plus no adverse effects on the lungs. Granted ensure you don't make it very strong. If you do pm me, i will gladly help you eat them :D.

psychologist cannot prescribe drugs.

They basically give you a letter which you in turn give to your doctor who then prescribes the meds, so basically yes they can at the end of the day. We would need to ask riax but i don't think anyone but a doctor can prescribe your meds unless you are sent to a mental illness place then yea i dunno riax can tell us more about that.

I'm going to get vitamin D this afternoon. Why is it beneficial for mental health?
