No, I reckon antidepressants are like antihistamines, because early antidepressants were discovered through antihistamine research.

But I get your issue, only psychiatric medication isn’t so well understood that I’d trust a psychiatrist in the same way I’d trust a GP or another specialist. Antidepressants are basically a sledgehammer where a scalpel is required, not a precise science. Psychiatrists will try a few different medications on you until they find one that works, and then when they do, the effects might fizzle out two weeks later and they’ll have no idea why. Brains are just too complex.

Possibly , but methinks you saw the word “sex” and jumped to that conclusion. Obviously never been on antidepressants or you’d know how they can numb your Johnson :ROFL:

My depression eases when I do things that increase testosterone production like working out and taking ZMA/eating high fat meals.

Because science says it is. Ssshhh, people without mental health issues dishing out advice to people who have actually had ample motivation to do the research for themselves.

I was on SSRI's for 14 years and decided to stop about a year ago. The first couple of weeks afterward are pretty kak.

Anyway, my opinion is now is not he best time to go off the meds. With your wedding and all that. Maybe revisit it when the stressful things are over.

I don't trust psychiatrists at all.

Having read up on what they prescribe, and what the side effects are, I'd never take medication prescribed to me by one.

Some of them have such terrible withdrawal effects that you can become really stuck.

Yeah. I do think it’s an important profession, but only as a last-resort kind of thing where the potential upside outweighs the risk.

Not that you are going to tell your patients this when $$$ is at stake.

I also thought so until I actually saw a psychiatrist. One who is competent, cares about his patients and spends a great of time and effort in researching medications, treatments and looks at your overall health not just your illness. Granted, not all doctors are like this and there are some dangerous medications out there. However that is also true of many other medication types

Like any profession, you get good practitioners and unfortunately you get bad ones.
 
Anyone ever had problems with life insurance cover being declined due to being diagnosed with depression?

Family member is having endless issues because of simply being diagnosed and the condition being listed as chronic with medical aid.
 
One Day I woke up. And everything was gone I want only one thing. Not to worry anymore. No pain, No hunger no more feeling. I think about only one thing. I need to stop this.
