Dicing drivers kill 5 in one day.

why culpable homicide ? why not murder?

they were drunk/on coke... it wasn't a accident, its not like the tire burst, and these 4 kids got killed, change the charge to murder...

A fifth victim of the Soweto incident has died.
Does anyone know of a person who's ever gone to jail for vehicular culpable homicide in this country? In all the high profile cases the person has either walked, just fined, given a suspended sentence or community service...

Technically it isn't murder and believe me they are going to be getting lawyers who will be looking for every bit of technicality to get these scum off.

Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane said: "It is a two-way street and one of the cars went into the other lane, driving in the lane of oncoming traffic, parallel to one another."

When a car came from the other direction, the driver tried to swerve back into the right lane and crashed into the Mini he was allegedly racing.

"They both drove onto the pavement and mowed down the four young boys who were still in school uniform," Mamonyane said.

Watch them blame the other car for making them swerve.

5 dead kids ! These pathetic one day wonders need a very long time behind bars and to hell with lack of intent.

Me neither. Sorry, but we were brought up differently. Something wrong with the upbringing of these people too. I would not be surprised if a couple of them are not perhaps drug users/pushers too. Where do they get the money for these vehicles and to be awake at 01h00 on a Monday morning when surely they should be sleeping to be fresh for work the next day.

Things like street racing would have been considered very low class stuff in my era.

Yes yes!!
The scum did it in Voortrekker road PTA on sundays.

Has to do with lack of intent.

that is so wrong... but if some guy shoots an intruder in HIS OWN house, then its murder

our country is all kinds of fscked up... a safe haven for criminals....

Fsck 'lack of intent' they broke so many laws, and it cost 5 lives... MURDER ... hell, this is the perfect scenario for the death penalty to make a comeback.

No that is actually wrong.

If the person is not posing a threat and is running away then its murder, otherwise its not.

get your facts straight.

so a guy breaks into my house, and for that he doesn't pose a threat to me

if YOU are in MY house unauthorised, [i.e. breaking in in the middle of the night], how can you NOT pose a threat to me?

should i wait until he rapes my wife/daughter?

I might sound like a parent or grandparent when I say the following, but the current generation of young people are not of a very high calibre. While I do not want to paint all young people with the same brush, one just has to look at the faces of these clowns that occupy these cars and I am sorry but my generation did not partake in such activities as street racing.

While I agree with most of your comments, if your generation did not partake in street racing , then there were no cars around. Street racing has been around since cars were invented and society has always had stupid people. Just hope they write themselves off before hurting others like these swine.

Hi Kosmik.

There was law and order in my day. Street racers although they obviously existed were kept under control by the authorities.

Writing themselves off ... anyone notice the number of flattened street poles on the M5 and little crosses marking the spot. I would imagine that a few of those flattened poles were caused by street racers belting it down the M5.

Regards,
BTTB.

Why one would want to race on our potholed fsked up roads is beyond me.

I own a fast car, and the irony is that the street racers think I'm a moron when I dont want to race robot to robot with them - bloody idiots with replica mags, replica sound - think that adding racing stickers to your car makes it go faster......

Why do people race!?!? Driving fast is one thing.. but racing is another. If both these guys had sped down that road seperately, like five minutes apart, those boys would still be fine. I'm not saying speeding is fine or isnt fine.. am just saying that racing on public roads is one of the stupidest things you can do. Not only do you put your life at risk, you also risk the lives of others.

Both the driver's have traded the rest of their lives for a few moments of cheap fun. Enjoy jail 4ssholes! At least Jubjub will have some time to work on his next album.. coming soon in 2053!!

The irony is they have a front wheel drive car with lowered suspension, mags and a spoiler, and maybe a turbo charger and modified exhaust if they are really crazy. And they expect such a car to beat a Ferrari or a real racing car, such as a touring car!

Who says they are going to jail?

Who said that?

Good question! But I think (and hope) that there is a good chance that they will go to jail. Looks like this is set to be a high profile case, being as how there is a "celebrity" (a musician who nobody knew of until he became a murdered) involved. Four young boys killed! I think this trial will be high profile, which hopefully means that there will be someone making sure that the dockets don't go missing. Either that, or hopefully the children's parents have some money to pay someone to keep the dockets from going missing.

Their children have been killed.. the case is pretty clear cut, sounds like there were witnesses, so the state has a good case. I am sure that the children's parents want to see justice done.. the only question now is... how much Justice can they afford?

Did this make news because it had a "celeb" involved? Sure, its a tragedy, and street drags do have a risk attached to innocent ppl as well as the drivers,
but this incident and drag racing in general pales to drunken drivers and the havoc they cause. It could even be argued that this incident would never have happened if the drivers were not under the influence...

I read alot of ppl here going off about fast cars/mod cars etc, but driving after a few drinks certainly has higher risks than some kid in a fast car.
Driving home from wherever, i would say about 1/4 of the drivers on the road after 12 are visibly under the influence to a point where i am afraid to pass them on the highway.

Like i said, its a tragedy, but drivers under the influence are more the enemy than any uno turbo will ever be...

Unrelated event, but shows how speed kills.
3 people died on Boyes drive last weekend when they hit a tree at speed. The story goes that they were late and rushing to get to Simonstown for the Naval Show.
Navy in mourning after two deaths
