Dicing drivers kill 5 in one day.

I'd to throw in a question (as everyone does in CA), but you all seem so judgemental I'd be scared for you labelling me and going for my blood ...

I don't see where the article says these cars were "Juiced up" or 10000s spent on modifications? These were 2 stock mini coopers? Don't bash people that want to spend money on their vehicles. Taking an old crap car and building it up again to better than showroom condition is an achievement not something to look down upon. Its a passion, just like its your guys passion to come here and moan. Condolences to the families.

One thing about the lady in Cape Town that got rammed off the road.
Those guys are gonna be in kuk once they get found out.
And they will be.
And I'm not talking about with the police.

Condolences to all of the affected families.

We're not bashing people who build there cars up as a personal achievement. This is aimed at Street Racers, who typically also build their cars up. If someone modifies their car and then races it on public roads, they deserve to be severely punished for risking innocent people's lives

The two in the Cooper that knocked over the school kids ... ?

The other two drove away, right?

Apparently Jub Jub and his pal (in the mini coopers) were both high (on what is believed to be cocaine) & one them drunk too.

So sad. If I was one of the parents I will cut them into little pieces & feed it to the birds.

How come there are a bunch of these morons in Minis? Just the other day that other gift to the Arrive Alive campaign, Mandoza, was involved in an involuntary remodelling exercise.

There was an advertising campaign that was run in Australia a few years back, in which girls were encouraged to display their pinky fingers to boys who drove too fast, or recklessly, symbolizing a small willy. Apparently it worked well.

Anyone who drives recklessly, whether they happen to be racing at the time or not, is an idiot.

ah, I see a dragon from middle earth joined the forum :D

welcome :)

back to the topic - those id10t drivers think they're safe with power steering, airbags and ABS braking... but once the car goes out of control, it's tickets.

My feeling is once you're convicted of a speeding/racing offense, your car be impounded, and you be given a wheezy, powerless car to drive as punishment. (Think big body and small engine).

Or an enforced month in a morgue so you can see the results of accidents.

Gawd I hate these street racing idiots.

My story.
For the last 4 Sunday nights at around 12 midnight until 01h00 we have had these road racers collecting at a local garage here in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Wakes the whole neighbourhood, the community then phones the Police and they send a couple of vans around, last Monday morning at 00h30 there was 4 Police Vans in the vicinity and one Metro car. What a waste of Police resources as in each incidence they have to be called out when visible policing our neighbourhood is far more important.
The noise levels are so high that you cannot sleep as each car that starts up and pulls away lets off noise pollution in the way of throaty exhausts and screeching tyres. Every Monday for the last 4 weeks our sleep has been disturbed by these racing cars revving their engines and if the cops are not around doing donuts as well.

Although they have not killed anyone yet, the chance of something happening is high. Not to mention the noise levels, loss of sleep and irritability attached the next morning.
Friday night the Ghost Squad (I think it was them) set up a speed camera on our Road, but no street racers were caught as the roads were dead, just people from the community doing 80 in a 60 zone get punished (yep we got caught).
And what is the point of phoning the Police as the street racers simply monitor the Police Radios and the cops arrive and can do nothing. You can hear the Police Radio in these guys cars announcing the call out!

Very frustrating and the Law is not helping. We think other than the Police Radio that alerts these racers, they have friends working in the Police or Traffic Services that alert them to any traps the authorities set up.

Thank you!

They should be publicly spanked by an elderly female traffic cop - I'm thinking the extreme embarrassment might cure them of the need for speed.

I might sound like a parent or grandparent when I say the following, but the current generation of young people are not of a very high calibre. While I do not want to paint all young people with the same brush, one just has to look at the faces of these clowns that occupy these cars and I am sorry but my generation did not partake in such activities as street racing.

I hate it when I do that and I'm not even that old. :(

Me neither. Sorry, but we were brought up differently. Something wrong with the upbringing of these people too. I would not be surprised if a couple of them are not perhaps drug users/pushers too. Where do they get the money for these vehicles and to be awake at 01h00 on a Monday morning when surely they should be sleeping to be fresh for work the next day.

Things like street racing would have been considered very low class stuff in my era.
