Digging up the roads

Come and dig the whole place up.. than we can stay at home and have fiber running strait to the house..

This is a typical mentality in South Africa. People want cheaper/faster internet services, but do not want to have Neotel lay a cable in front of their house.

The same holds true for the mobile operators. People are fast to complain that they have poor coverage in their area, but when the operator wants to erect a new cell mast they complain and kick up a fuss.

You can't have it both ways. A little inconvenience now will make it way better in the future.

I posted in another thread about this.
Its Telkom Mtn Voda and Neotel digging up the roads....
Katherine streets been dug up twice already.

No trenches in CPT that i've noticed...

I've seen guys lifting up side walks all over CPT. I'm not sure if it's Neotel, but still there's been lots of work taking place.

Ru sure that's not bergies "liberating" the asphalt for some meths?

Somebody is digging a huge trench in Oxford Road.

I heard it is going to be for a 1,000 Petabyte Fiber link from my house to my ISP! :D

Its really exciting seeing all this fibre being laid... however when do we connect to it ?

How do we find out who is offering the connectivity ?

“At the outset I would like to make the point that Neotel is not digging up roads – we completed this part of the fiber laying process 12 months ago already,” says Mattiello.

Wow, never knew that. Maybe I'm just slow with the news but well done NT. :0
I'd gladly open my drive way/road for those cables. ;D Good job, keep it up.

Neotel also was digging trenches in front of my home with no "Neotel at work" sign but I noticed a Neotel sign on a lid to get access to the transmitter/cables

Plenty of Neotel activity in the northern suburbs around Tygervalley.

Though I drive to work in the southern suburbs every day and haven't noticed much there yet. Odd.

I hit one of those holes in the road yesterday, on Republic in Randburg. Was going to phone to Neotel today to find out why they haven't covered it up as yet.

It is Neotel, I remember them digging up the road. They did cover it up with sand and cement which has now all worn away. I was just complaining yesterday on their use of weak cement on a tarred road. But from what the guy is saying it's JRA's responsibility to tar the road back again which they haven't done in time! Now the Neotel fibre is going to be lost some of those holes are getting very deep.

This isn't progress if we're losing our tarred roads. And no one in sight to fix them up again!
