As much as I may risk appearing to be a conspiracy theorist, I do not believe this is a network fault of any kind. If it was you would probably also be getting 20kB speeds even on your high end account, however in this case it appears like we're being strictly limited. R300 users to 20kB and R3000 users to 200kB. 10x the price and 10x the speed it seems.

The real issue (at least for the spicy users) is that the limitation is LOWER than the advertised speeds and while UP TO is a nice scape goat it's not really "UP TO" if you're LIMITING it to a speed lower than that is it? Ah well....you're better off on numerous other uncapped offerings for that price while those of us on spicy accounts who just want our promised speeds have to wait, hope and sharpen our bandwidth eating utensils.
 
I can't connect to DC at all, is anybody else having trouble connecting.

I paid for DC via Credit Card on the 1st of January, Do I treat this as a Prepaid account and pay again or does DigiChilli automatically bill me every month if I haven't hit the Cool Down button?

Edit: It took 14 minutes and restart of my router and I finally have a connection again.

I thought that at first but certain things don't add up.

1) If the network was stable everyone would get the same exact speed. i.e sally would be getting more than 6kB/s max and I wouldn't get 24kB/s max.
2) I would also get 24kB/s solid on all downloads, but torrents anh http vary.
3) HTTP would be better than torrents and at the moment it isn't.
4) DC would've said their system was working 100% coz then we'd have no reason to complain if we knew we were gna keep getting these crappy speeds.
5) There seems to be no speed limiting, some 4 meg users are getting 30kB/s +

Now maybe I am completely wrong but I hope I'm right and there is something wrong. As odd as it sounds it gives some hope that we'll get speed improvements.

Andre we know your reading this thread so please just tell us whats wrong we won't bite :p
 
i hope we do because these speeds are killing me, i dont want to pay for another month if this is what its gonna be like??
 
So surely one could not complain about the speeds even though I think it is absolutely absurd that the R3000 account is not up to 4096kbps....

no i can because when i got hold of andre he told me that i should be getting my 450-500kB/s on my hot account with my line.....not 200kB/s, i was told they working on it.

Heh, as odd as it sounds I hope I'm wrong and you're right too. Depressing to think that what we're currently experiencing could be the "norm".
 
Today my http downloading is even worse ....it seems to have something to do with browsing.....I can't browse and download at the same time.....

Yep, that has to do with the new virtual pipe system where you have to manage your bandwidth...
 
Looks like they upped the speed....news servers running at 32 which is the advertised speeds....now just the bursting part...oh yeah no longer on the website :)

without bursting i'm rather going back to my 30GB local accounts....and afrihost prepaid...

1) Accounts
From today onwards, payments for packages are valid for a calendar month i.e. payment for a package today will expire on the same day -1 next month and not at the end of the current calendar month anymore.

2) Speed issues.
We are aware of the speed issues. We have identified problems and are dealing with them. It is related to the way we currently allocate bandwidth are we are adjusting this.

Add telkom to the equation, then all the other variables...
Web-based speet tests are just an estimate of the slowest link between you and the test server. Tests are dependent on many factors, such as time of day, congestion on the path at the time, your ISP's backbone/connectivity, your allocated bandwidth, the particular node you're on, the state of the Internet at the time, latency, moon phase ;), etc. http://www.speedguide.net/speedtest/

Note that pc based tests also have the same limitations/variables. In fact, MyConnection PC (desktop based) tests always have shown about half, or less than half of the speed of the fastest web based test, like speedtest.net. The results are similar or less than the speedguide.net tests. The start of the tests below show the speeds of the speedguide.net results.
