er, just a quick question as opposed to going through the entire 248 pages or so...

how is DC these days? My Screamer a/c is going at 10kb for the entire month and i am going to cancel tomorrow. Either DC or Afrihost... or that other one for R499 including the line rental? Openweb or whatever

Better than 10kB/s my side but nothing over 30kB/s sadly. A positive is the fact speeds have improved but most people still are stuck at 20kB/s. Another thing to note is DC is apparently close to going live with their own news server which is *supposedly* going to increase speeds. So it's pretty much depends on you, you can probbaly get 35+ gigs easy if you try hard enough which isn't bad for R300 but I got a feeling it's still going to be a bumpy ride. Hope all that helps :)

When ever i try logging on i get username and password issue. Andre said that they have implemented this new customer relations manager to improve customer server so i was like lets give it a try.... i called... they answered then i told them my issue (this was at about 19:30) and they said they will call me back in ten mins... i think his name was Themba or other still waiting for the call with still username and password issue... i have been having great speeds with them this evening now it has all halted due to some dummy with a switch!

I think most of our problems are port related (NAT related)

Here is some of the ports, haven't tested them yet ( still have to reconfigure my router)
Table 13-2: Common TCP/IP Service Port Numbers

Port Number Internet Service
20 FTP-Data (FTP default data)
21 FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
23 Telnet
25 SMTP (outgoing mail)
37 Time
53 DNS (Domain Name System)
70 Gopher
79 Finger
80 HTTP (web server)
88 Kerberos
110 POP3 (incoming mail) depending on which mail you are using
119 NNTP (network news)
1863 Microsoft MSN Messenger
5190 AOL Instant Messenger
7070 Real Audio and Video

Sometimes when i try to open my browser their is no activity at all, but torrents are still running...I have double checked everything. Its like my connection times out or something. I have to reconnect to my router/modem (Re-authenticate details) to fix this or restart it.

No one has explained to us how their shaping system works exactly...
DC still has to tweak their systems in order to give a good reliable service

Furthermore: Support structure needs some mayor improvements - They dont have any on their own site anymore ( I propose a help-desk ticket system of some sort) i mean come on DC you can download freeware for this!!!

Any comments?

Graphic too graphic lol Saw VII Barbwire birth  Speeds are at 16 to 24kB/s on HTTP but torrents are dead Utorrent reports my network isn't working correctly  Seeing as DC and Screamer are almost a like NAT'ing could be the problem :erm:

I can't really complain too much, speeds have been a bit slow, 20-26k on Astra, and browsing is ok, I have had a constant connection.

I have e-mailed them 3 times with no reply regarding how to check usage. Where do I go to check how much I have used? I tried the IS tracker with DC user and password, it says invalid.

I remember some one using the users.isdsl.net to check their usage, what user and password if that is so?

Here is a short email Andre sent me this morning..

Hi Darren

Sorry for the late reply, we are trying to move P2P and rapidshare to its own pipe so that they guys get better speeds out of it.

I will let you know once this is done.

Regards
Andre

Well this just seems ridiculous - has DC given up on giving each person a virtual pipe and are they going back now to shaping per application again?!

You should either limit people per "pipe" or limit the entire group per application. To do both is crazy! If you limit the pipe and the application you end with P2P being shaped twice! I wish they would pick a strategy and stick with it :(
