DigiChilli January Status and feedback

Stats for February:

Uploaded: 2 294 681 682
Downloaded: 48 552 124 405
Total Combined: 50 846 806 087

The last 3 days of Febraury I averaged 1.8 gigs without even trying too hard and 2.3 gigs on Sunday. If DC keep this up I'll easily get 2 gigs per day. I believe DC finally have gottem control over their network and are ironing out a few bugs here and there.

Speeds:

HTTP Single Threaded: 6-8kB/s Slow but can be improved.
HTTP Multi Threaded: 32kB/s to 44kB/s Fast and seems to be staying above 35kB/s 90% of the time.
Torrents: 18kB/s to 36kB/s Great but slow to kick off and seems to me you need a well seeded torrent often.
Browsing: Great Even when downloading.
Audio Streaming: Perfect.
Video Streaming: A bit slow but seems to be improving.
IM: Perfect.

If DC keep this up they'll be the best and cheapest ISP in SA :)

OK need to decide if I test them. I am with Afrihost and love my speed I get. I am on a 4mb line will I survive on the 384?

Quick question I see that you can have 2 concurrent connections does that mean you use more line speed as in my case on a 4mb line would I get 2 x 384 speed?

Yes. Speeds are great at the moment, 143.3mb an hour. If I downloaded stuff for 24 hours straight I'd get 3 gigs. Since your on a 4mb line I'd think your Afrihost cap would be done in a day ;)

Thats on the mild package. They seem to have changed it to burstable up to 512kB/s no concurrent but seems still to be active, so if the others are right then if you combined your concurrent connections you'd get 1mb total. I'll let you in on a little secret, DC aren't limiting package speed yet so if you signed up now you might get close to full line speed :D But for the love of being a nice person don't abuse it if you get it. :p

Actaully all 4mb's out there please try limit your downloads even if only to 250kB/s. Yes it isn't your fault but while you can suck up huge amounts af bandwidths other poor saps on a 384k suffer. Have a heart and share :)

Now to answer the next question you or anyone else might ask, Is trying DigiChilli for a month worth it? Answer: YES, YES and some more YES. DC might not be stable all the time but where else can you get 30 gigs at least for R300 pm. Don't forget it's month to month so try it for a month and if you don't like it then leave. :)

Would you guys say it is safe to join Digichilli now but keep a 1gb Afrihost acc just in case the worst happens again?

I would say its safe, DC has been great the last week or so, and did not have any major problems for the whole of February.
I have a Spicy account but also have a few other isp accounts for in case and other things

I have to say my news server downloads have been flying, getting between 30KBs and 40KBs. HTTP is a bit slow, but WOOHOO astraweb!!!

Just phone them or send them a mail, have to say, their customer support has improved by leaps and bounds.

speeds back to normal...but much more stable than last month.

Speeds have slowed down a bit but I'm still getting between 25kB/s and 35kB/s with multi-threaded http downloads. Torrents are also around the 28kB/s margin and even bursts up to 35kB/s on a very well seeded/non heavy leeching torrent. I can live with these speeds for a while, DC did promise us a news server and better speeds when it was launched so I think that's when we will truly find out what our max speeds are going to be like. :)

On the DC News Server front now. Has anyone heard any new information on this? An ETA or any sort of update would be nice. Also I hope DC have put measures in place so that only DC IP's can use their news servers otherwise it'll suck from all the congestion

Oh and how is gaming online with DC these days?

Speed very slow cannot even browse???

Can you check your ip address? It may be that DC is tweaking certain IP Address Ranges which is not a bad thing if you're patient. It will be fixed usually in a couple hours (unless there is a big problem :p).

Just give it a couple of days and if still isn't to your liking just get a refund a full refund. ;)
