What are my speeds supposed to be on a 384 line with spice package when downloading from astraweb? No other applications are using bandwith at the moment and at the moment its flying at the incredible speed of 11kB/s. The reply I got from supportATdc says that this is normal???

should be in the region of 30Kb/s i think

I do get peed off with DC some times when the browsing is not going well......

http downloads can be a huge pain sometimes but I ain't changing.....

I have got more use out of them since December than I had from my last ISP in the +-1ear that I was with them.....

So for me DC rocks big time...price wise.......:D:D:love::love:

"I would also like to ask people like Hoodrich to report back on whether they have actually received their refunds hassle free?"

Yes DC were very good in this respect. I asked for a refund which I promptly received. I haven’t given up on DC though, when (yes when not if!) things come right and I see good reviews I will give them another try. At the moment I have to have a stable connection. :)

they never said what the max speed will be. Ive emailed them multiple times before signing up, got no reply, so i just decided to test it. and as they state in there FAQ about the burstable speed, they state clearly- ""We're guaranteeing a minimum service but you'll probably get full speed out"". Full speed, so because i own a 4mbps line, and pay for that 4mbps line, and as i get my full line speed as they stated i'll "probably get", the community cant blame me and label me as abuser or misuser. I paid for this service, actually just to see why everyone is complaining, and i didnt find the service to be as ***** as some people stated. And now that i wanted to help some of you guys that are complaining about the service, your attacking me.

the speeds you will get approximately according to your line:

"384 line" - 384 / 8 * 0.83 = 39.84 KB/s Download.
"512 line" - 512 / 8 * 0.83 = 53.12 KB/s Download.
"4mb line" - 4069 / 8 * 0.83 = 422.16 KB/s Download.

As you can see the gap between the "hated" 4mbps users and the rest of the sheep are unacceptable, but not the users fault.

And as DC stated in there FAQ

"We're guaranteeing a minimum service but you'll probably get full speed out"

So get a better line and stop hating.

Im waiting for Dave to reply me on this, and if he says im not allowed to use my account on usenet or not at my full line speed for the time being, then ill limit my speeds. But if they will limit our speeds permanently then i'll just stick with axxess and my telkom account.

oh and btw, my http downloads aint even close to the minimum guaranteed speed aswell. But im not complaining.

+1 I agree with spartaniz on this one, since guys like Lightscribe label the 4meg users abusers its just childish, so your jealous he has a 4meg line and receiving full speeds, he is after all paying for it,since you cant, rather go relieve your anger on telkom and complain them why there's this huge gap between the lines. At this stage im on a 512 line and all my speeds are full aswell, torrents im getting full speed up and down as well as with my usenet, no problems. should we all limit our speeds so that we are on the same page as 384 users? so its "fair" rather complain about your wallet being empty not about someone else's wallet being thick. we all are paying digichilli for their service and uncapped, not our fault that they didnt think about the line speeds. period.
SInce i joined digichilli the first 5hours was a nightmare! i couldnt connect, didnt get anything more than 1kbps on local torrents...but since around Saturday i've been happy as can be,full speeds,i can actually connect to the service, and even when i mailed Dave and asked WTF, he replied in the first hour with his explanation, later that day i was sorted. so im happy with DC,for now...not gonna limit anything,im paying for my line, just as spartaniz, he's paying telkom for his fast line and your paying telkom for your slow line, go complain to your boss for an increase or something.

i will do so, if it is a prob, then ill be happy to limit my speed until they get everything 100%.

Don't you think the users who have been chatting in this thread ad nauseum for the past 50 days or so would know the answer to your question.

I was being helpful.

When you said you were not going to use astraweb until you got an answer from Dave, i was saving you some time in saying it's fine to use usenet, but to be safe just keep it below 100K.

You can follow my advise, and enjoy your 100K, or you can just wait. In the future i'll try be less helpful when answering your questions.

DC's minimum guaranteed speed on mild is 256kbps or 32KB (256/8) - Your line speed of 384 if maxed should give you 48KB.
Shouldnt it be more in the region of 40KB/s? like spartaniz' equation shows?
"384 line" - 384 / 8 * 0.83 = 39.84 KB/s Download.

This seems more accurate.

Well, what should I do if I dont receive close to those speeds? I already mailed DC and they said this is normal for my speeds not to be more than 14kB/s on a news server?

When you connect with your telkom account do you get the same speed or more? you can always use your telkom speeds and show it to DC,so that they know its not "normal" when i still had problems with my DC,i frequently compared my telkom and DC speeds...even so DC guarantee's 256kbps,which is roughly 30KB/s, so you should still get that type of speeds,at least...

You'll never get your max line speed, there's always overhead that must be factored in. I agree, if you have a stable line and DC has a normal day :D, you should get between 32kb to 42kb.

You still work? :wtf: I retired at 36, sold off land and now live on the beach. I have a budget for R1500 for internet access. Actually R1750 per month, thanks to recent investment of only R42000 in an ISP. :whistling:

Hope you're doing a good job, wherever you work. "See you when you get there..." ;)

Read the third heading and related info. http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=3502023&postcount=788

Let me take you back to the beginning...Hope your boss doesn't have to spoonfeed you also...
According to Darren Smith, Managing Director of DigiChilli, “these are all burstable services up to double the advertised speed.” http://mybroadband.co.za/news/ADSL/10412.html

Yes, it does get to between 32KB to 42KB, with a 4 segment download, through GetRight.

Apart from hanging with friends at the pub/restaurant right on the beach, tanning a little, beachwalking, snorkeling, swimming, playing with the cat or dog, chatting to my 18 year old daughter about Varsity, which she enters this year, or just plain relaxing...yes, I always have a few MyBB tabs open to stay up to date. :D ;)

Hi All, well i finally joined the forums after reading them for years, main reason i wanted to find out from you guys some info. After reading many bad reports about digichilli, i noticed in the last few days that it got better and decided to join this morning, got my login details straight away, was up and running, http great, and speedtests all good as well, what i wanted to ask is with p2p such as emule, im guessing thay throttle or limit it during the day for buisiness and so on, but at what times would this change over as i am getting total of only 1.5KB/s down and 1.0 KB/s up, If anyone could help and give me a bit of help on this it would be great, thanks

Welcome to MyBB and that's a good 1st post. :D

Just check on posts by Dave, like the one I quoted above. Go to the 1st post of this thread, click his name, then click "find all posts". There was some recent info.

Also read the info on the DC site, for more details. http://www.digichilli.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=51&Itemid=55
