I can log into Secondlife again, but it's still ultra slow, at between 0-2kbps http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=14157&cat=500

Browsing is fast. 5fm streams well. Downloads get to 38KB+, with 4 segments, using GetRight.

Speedtest.net, that usually gives 25KB+, now shows average of 14KB.

Speedguide.net, that usually shows a slightly lower speed test result, is also lower overall.

What I do notice, is that the wild jumps in speed differences of before, between tests only minutes apart, have become stable.

Won't a speedtest to a server based in the US reflect inaccurate speeds due to the number of hops? Just asking...

Not always.

I do three tests from three different servers. Also, there is the average speed, over time, to consider.

DC reaches speeds of of 40KB with Speakeasy. The others show a related increase then also, just as when any one test drops or increases...

Their averages are always an indication of the the download speed from a browser(Speedguide test speeds), or a single segment download through GetRight(Speedtest test speeds), or a 4 segment download through GetRight(Speakeasy test speeds).

Here are two tests, a few minutes apart, after a first test, with the link for more info on each of the two tests and a pic of the first test.

There is still a peak at the start, with a 2 second delay, which is messing with the test half of the time. That then gives inconclusive information, as shown with the 1st link's info.

i get full line (4096kbps- about ~420KB/s) speed from astraweb and dc 24/7

Let me guess, on a mild or Spicy account?

That in a sentence represents everything that is wrong with Digichilli for me.

After a month of operation, would you like to tell me that there is not a single network specialist/consultant that could assists them with setting up their network properly?

I get what people like Lightscribe is saying. My hat goes off to them, but sadly, it is no longer good enough, time to get real. No other ISP goes down for hours on end with a upstream provider issue...when that happen it is normally a country wide / serious problem...stuff that you read about on the front page of My Broadband. Why is Digichilli struggling so much? Is it a matter of them taking shortcuts and the users take the punch?

Why, after a month of operation, you don't have Dave telling everyone that he has a specialist / swarm of specialist in there working 24/7 to get things done? Surely it is in his vested interest to have the network fixed and operational within specification as soon as possible. The 40 million number has been thrown around a couple of times, surely as a shareholder he understands that the bad experience of users far out way any cost incurred?

I am sorry Lightscribe and fellow positive users, but some things just does not add up.

I would also like to ask people like Hoodrich to report back on whether they have actually received their refunds hassle free?

I agree that some issues, such as more communication from a representative of DC and the sad abuse of the system by Spartaniz and others, need to be addressed urgently.

I agree that R40Mil is reason enough to make sure, you bring in the brightest guy in the country, or the world, if need be, to make sure your system does what it should.

I don't agree that we should insult DC by implying that they are not paying people back.

Let's wait for the people getting refunds, to report back if they feel the need to. I'm sure anyone that gets no satisfaction, will be starting a thread just for it.

Hi all,

Just got back from an extended holiday, and see digichilli isn't connecting at all.

So just a few questions for DC staff and fellow users if you'd all be so kind.

First how stable has the service been in the last 3 weeks? How far off will a stable service be?

How has the throttling been? Particularly on torrents?

Has anyone been able to get stable ping rates when gaming? When will DC be stable enough for gaming?

Thanks very much.

My speeds still suck. I have mailed Dave,Chantel and Support but not one person got back to me. For the last couple of days my speed has not been more than 14kB/s with a 384k line.

I got through to the DC call centre! First time in a week of trying several times a day.
They asked me to resend my proof of payment. I just did.

Let's see what happens!
(Why am I so excited like I'm getting internet connection for the first time? :p)

Account was reactivated immediately!
Currently being awesome on DC.

Also public props to the very nice and speedy help desk guy (whose name I didn't catch because of the cracking and SSSHHHH sounds on the DC line) answered all my questions and was incredibly quick to sort everything out. DC give that dude a cupcake or something.

Getting nice speeds everywhere and getting through on the help desk number no longer a giant mission.

Things are looking up! :D

Always 1st look here. :D http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=209406

Then read the old threads too. It has stabilised, but still low speed.

Also send Dave a PM with your DC username and your email address for the account. Mine was fixed in 5 min.

I don't use torrents.

Still cannot use Secondlife. It shows speed of only 0-1KB.

Speeds stable at around 12-14KB.

My speeds still suck. I have mailed Dave,Chantel and Support but not one person got back to me. For the last couple of days my speed has not been more than 14kB/s with a 384k line.

It has always been around 12-14KB when running smoothly. It seems the average DC speed, until they can limit everyone's bursting, to exactly double their paid for speed, as per the website.

I don't think I was rude nor insulting in asking feedback as to whether people are getting their money back. There are a lot of unhappy people. I am one South African that is tired of writing money off because I am rather to embarrassed to cause a scene or just could not care because that is considered ok and acceptable... All I want is transparency relating to the matter of refunds, something that yourself feels is alone enough to take care of everyone that is unhappy.

I have been monitoring this thread since december to decide if I should join DC, I have tested their services when they were running tests, found them to be rather acceptable but now THIS?.....

I can't seem to understand what trouble they are having. I have a 512kbps uncapped ADSL in the office which we (the partners) put emule on 24/7, what i then did was put that on the least priority, emule will then take up 100% of network resources but browsing / VoIP won't suffer, the minute a computer on the network browses or uses the voip phones the bandwidth is immediately freed up for that purpose, the software used to implement this was also rather cheap for what it did (~R800 from the USA).

Seriously DC, your idea is brilliant, but limits needs to be put into your systems, do away with 256kbps, just give pple their line speeds (384/512/4096), and don't give pple the chance to abuse ur network by giving them line speed, properly prioritise network traffic, p2p is not critical, voip is, and when browsing dies it just doesn't look good.

I would really like to know the contention ratio they are currently running on tho.

This is just my opinion, I don't think that DC's issues are bandwidth related - A friend of mine is a backbone engineer at a upstream provider and he confirmed that DC has more than enough bandwidth - protocol prioritisation may just be the issue...that I agree with.

I see someone has already created a thread w.r.t. feedback on refunds:

Pleasure. :)

Perhaps it isn't for you. I also like the color of transparency... So, when I see you support SAOL, perhaps the hair on my tail should not be standing straight up, but it does.

The last thread was locked because of arguments. So I feel that discussions about whether people "actually received their refunds hassle free", should be kept in a separate thread, unless it is a person who wishes to tell the world about their actual experience (and reason) of not being refunded.
