how is the speed currently?

ive disconnected from astraweb, awaiting a reply from Dave before connecting again.
Ja ja, how is the speed currently because we are at work...some of us has to keep this economy going![]()
Just throttle yourself down to reasonable levels. Sub 100K/s should be fine for now considering it's not your fault you can go faster.
You are paying for 32K burstable to double that.
This is all about helping the community.

I have been monitoring this thread since december to decide if I should join DC, I have tested their services when they were running tests, found them to be rather acceptable but now THIS?.....
I can't seem to understand what trouble they are having. I have a 512kbps uncapped ADSL in the office which we (the partners) put emule on 24/7, what i then did was put that on the least priority, emule will then take up 100% of network resources but browsing / VoIP won't suffer, the minute a computer on the network browses or uses the voip phones the bandwidth is immediately freed up for that purpose, the software used to implement this was also rather cheap for what it did (~R800 from the USA).
Seriously DC, your idea is brilliant, but limits needs to be put into your systems, do away with 256kbps, just give pple their line speeds (384/512/4096), and don't give pple the chance to abuse ur network by giving them line speed, properly prioritise network traffic, p2p is not critical, voip is, and when browsing dies it just doesn't look good.
I would really like to know the contention ratio they are currently running on tho.
they never said what the max speed will be. Ive emailed them multiple times before signing up, got no reply, so i just decided to test it. and as they state in there FAQ about the burstable speed, they state clearly- ""We're guaranteeing a minimum service but you'll probably get full speed out"". Full speed, so because i own a 4mbps line, and pay for that 4mbps line, and as i get my full line speed as they stated i'll "probably get", the community cant blame me and label me as abuser or misuser. I paid for this service, actually just to see why everyone is complaining, and i didnt find the service to be as ***** as some people stated. And now that i wanted to help some of you guys that are complaining about the service, your attacking me.
the speeds you will get approximately according to your line:
"384 line" - 384 / 8 * 0.83 = 39.84 KB/s Download.
"512 line" - 512 / 8 * 0.83 = 53.12 KB/s Download.
"4mb line" - 4069 / 8 * 0.83 = 422.16 KB/s Download.
As you can see the gap between the "hated" 4mbps users and the rest of the sheep are unacceptable, but not the users fault.
And as DC stated in there FAQ
"We're guaranteeing a minimum service but you'll probably get full speed out"
So get a better line and stop hating.
Im waiting for Dave to reply me on this, and if he says im not allowed to use my account on usenet or not at my full line speed for the time being, then ill limit my speeds. But if they will limit our speeds permanently then i'll just stick with axxess and my telkom account.
oh and btw, my http downloads aint even close to the minimum guaranteed speed aswell. But im not complaining.
im not using usenet now, but my torrents upload, local only ~41Kb/s
and i wanted to help ppl get there moneys worth, but until dave gives me some advice, ill just wait.
i will do so, if it is a prob, then ill be happy to limit my speed until they get everything 100%.
