Guys, we will deal with this as it comes up in other areas. There are no indications at present that any other areas will be affected. Also, we would rather let subscribers make use of the special line and installer teams that we have on standby to ensure that everything is done 100%.

So to be clear, this is only in selected areas in Cape Town:
-Tygerberg
-Constantiaberg
-Paarl
-Fishhoek
-Table Mountain
-Sea Point
-Simonstown
-Hout Bay
-Aurora
-Franschoek

And importantly, not all subscribers will be impacted. Many subscribers in these areas will not even notice any change in the quality of their picture.

Hey, My Broadband - I love your pic :D

I really thought Sentech would pick frequencies that don't interfere with current ones. Guess I gave them too much credit :(

This is not a big deal.

Only some people would be affected.

I wonder what the real number of affected people are. Perhaps some people would blame the switch on but it could be other issues that gives them a bad picture.

LMGA! all the squatters in the township with their free taxpayer-sponsored decoders screwing up the paying customers picture quality :)

Surely the title for this article should be:

"Digital TV switch on may affect poverty stricken DSTV subscribers who are so poor they cannot afford a TV with an RCA connection and therefore have to use an RF cable to connect their decoder"

I mean, seriously, if you're still using an RF cable then there's something wrong with you.

A lot of people are still using much older TVs, if it works, why throw it away. RF is also used to distribute the signal around the house to other TVs.

If your TV happens to be really close to your decoder or your TV has more than enough RCA / HDMI inputs for your dstv, xbox,wii,ps3,Top TV,DVD recorder, DVD player, Blue ray player, Tablet, PC .. then sure .. not everybodies setup is the same as yours .. and there are probably quite a few people that there is "something wrong with".....

Exactly what I use it for.

This isn't really Sentech's fault. They can't broadcast on any channel they like, it's laid down by the regulator (ICASA).

That said, in this particular case the regulations are still under review, but this is one of those situations where you have to give the maximum benefit for the minimum disruption. Unfortunately, progress sometimes requires a bit of disruption :crying:

So which frequency do you suggest? How do you know my parents VHS machine do not use that frequency?

This is not interference caused to a broadcast signal. This is interference to a internal signal. Your decoder receives the signal fine, but when it sends it to your tv, it might be using channel 50. Channel 50 was unused previously, but not anymore. That is why there might be interference.

It's about 7:45pm 15 May and the only DTT is the 18 DvB-H dstv (mobile/drifta) channels in Cape Town.
Did they mention what year this was supposed to take place? I think we and monochoice got it all wrong.....
There is zip from Tygerberg or Constantiaberg.
.

Scaremongering much....

Instead.of.pimping their own network so much they can put ads on to show people how to retune the remodulator's output to resolve the problem.

Can you please explain how I get around this?

They have a MNET comcrypt 4000 sending the signal to their TV via RF cable...

I need to retune from channel 50, but we dont have the manual and I have no idea how to go about this

Please help :(
