Any replacements for Discord?

I got a few ideas for my own Discord type build but before I drive AI's insane with that. I am Thinking WhatsApp? It can do everything Discord accept it doesn't allow for rooms and stuff like that.

Youtube Shorts? You should be castrated for posting that.
Don't care if it is long of short format, we all know that the Discord is about to go public and the ****ing moment that happens its all about profit and **** everyone else. its just how the world works. So I am looking into alternatives

The moment I hear names like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan I just want to ****ing vomit but those are some of the names mentioned.

This is very bad news. Look how these finance guys ruined Slack.

Slack was popular when it came out but suddenly their free tier changed where old messages past a period like 3 months weren't visible and you had to pay to download your old data you couldn't view anymore by paying for a subscription. It became an enterprise product making lots of money for their investors.

Self-hosted mumble server? My kids is using it to chat with his buddies in game (for those games without the capability).

Tell me more sounds good actually. But I wonder if self-hosted and port forwarding goes hand in hand?

Would say Element/matrix is also gaining traction, idea is to basically copy discord but support everyone self hosting servers (including streaming features).

Haven't tried it yet, but would migrate to it if discord got too extreme.

I host it on my Microserver and uses port forwarding. Also have DDNS set up
A lot of IT people tell me port forwarding is as good as leaving a house's door wide open. I am terrified to do it. Also why I didn't go for security camera because I can't risk my home network.
