Discovery Bank

Thanks for the info. The amount of products you have does play a marginal role apparently. At the moment I’m on
Debt Management 30k/30K
Savings 30K/30K for 45K + savings
Insurance 10K/25K (only household insurance)
Goals 2K
Total 72K

If I had life insurance and discovery drive I would have received the additional 15K for insurance which would have put me on 87K points

Not true with regards to Insurance. You can prove that you have the following outside of Discovery and they will reward you insurance points
-Medical Aid( Mine is with Fedhealth)
-Short term Insurance( Mine is with Discovery)
-Retirement( I used a combination of my provident fund plus my RA )

I’m going to upload proof for car and life insurance.

This week I was migrated from Discovery Card on FNB platform to Discovery Banking platform. What a mess.
  • The address displayed on the electronic statement was changed from my PO Box to an incorrect version of my home address. Not that it matters with electronic statements, but there seems to be no way to fix this on their website. I was also not asked to confirm this change.
  • I have different email addresses for different things. They have now abritrarily decided to use the email address linked to my discovery health profile to send my statements to.
  • I have a secondary card on my account. In the past this was grouped in it's own section with a sub-total for easy identification and payment. Now I just get one long list of transactions.
  • There is no way to email them. Calls only. Tried calling the call centre. 2 calls I got past the IVR and into the hold queue, after a while it just goes dead. 2 subsequent calls I got through to an agent. One just got cut-off midway. The other the call remained connected but I could no longer hear the agent.
  • Coincedently someone else from Discovery then calls about my conversion to help me through the final step of installing the banking app. I recant my situation and they put me through to an agent. Agent confirms new platform does not support separation of primary and secondary card transactions. To fix the address I have to send them proof of residence. Can't tell me why the email address was changed as they still see the original email address on my profile. Agent offered to esclate my issues to a manager, but I'm not holding my breath. At the end of the call she offered to transfer me, I said sure and she drops the call.
It is clearly still amateur hour at Discovery Bank.

I’ve been trying to get an answer from Discovery bank for a few days but with no luck. I currently have insurance on my household contents for a monthly premium of 180. I’ve seen a post somewhere that you only receive points (money status) if the premium is above R200 per month. Is that correct ?

Me too. They really do want those of us still on the legacy card to move to the Discovery Bank credit card, so there's no incentive to give us a decent platform. I also got a call from an agent saying I should migrate, because there are limitations on the card currently: can't change my credit limit (I don't want to), and something about managing budget (never used that). My only real beef at the moment is getting my OTP for online purchases via SMS and not email (don't know how to change that) and getting every transaction notification by both SMS and email.

There is no way to email them. Calls only. .
Hmmm, that's disappointing. Wanted to email them about the OTP thing. Not keen on sitting on hold for ages. Does anyone here know of an email address for Bank queries?

Is it safe to assume that spend bands are still not considered In deciding money status still . Also actual fuel spend is not considered for fuel cash back rather the avg DQ points for the calculations

As far as the fuel spend, last month I got paid max of my average fuel spend even though I barely put fuel even though they said that was only applicable for April, so not sure if they are doing it again this month

The short term insurance that needs to be R200 per month can be household only right ? Will I then receive points. It’s 180 at the moment

They had indicated that the spend bands will remain intact at the level pre-lockdown. Mine has not changed so will wait to see tomorrow. Ditto with fuel spend they fixed it at the average of the previous x (3 I think) months before lockdown. You still have to consider the current DQ points in calculating the fuel spend allocated though.

I see that they considered spend band for last month and my cash back percentages dropped for picknpay by 30% and others by 5% . So much for Discovery and their poor communication no one knows what’s gonna happen including those work there.

Yip and some.ppl I know remained at their max at 75% like last month

@morkhans @ros_b I was forced to migrate my card from FNB to Discovery in order to reclaim my missing Discovery miles. Agent "couldn't understand how the miles went missing", but Google shows so many people complained about it 702 had a programme featuring missing miles. I'm using the miles but in the meantime have managed to get a Capitec credit card and am working towards cancelling Discovery. Sick of having to make 30 minute phone calls at my expense

The cash back %'s are almost always all over the place on the first one or two days of each month, wait a while for it to settle.
It is not really possible for them to determine the spend band of the previous month this early as some transaction (transacted on, by example, on the 29th or 30th) still needs to clear.
