Discovery Bank

My money goal still isn't activated, will give it a full month then try call them (last month I didn't really spend on discovery)

I see details on my discounts like spend R2000 to get 5% more, but on active rewards it says "get a quote" on the money button

Do you have required balance in your vitality savings account? Money goals to be active you need minimum of 1000 rand in your gold card vitality account.

Tried to see what the required was for black, have R40 000 in the vitality savings but only from this month

It should be immediate once you reach the R2000 threshold, at least that is what I can remember

Need to upgrade but trying to figure out which is better between Platinum Card or Black Card ?
Is it worth it considering the suite ? really don't need the transactional account - CC has been perfectly fine

Any advice ?

Depends on your spend habits. If you can hit the higher spend targets and the earn back is worth it, then Black is worthwhile. Platinum is easier, lower spend targets, but PnP/Woolies discounts are capped lower.

Is it worth it considering the suite

There's two advantages to the suite: 0.5% higher interest on savings, and you can max out the monthly discount at 40% instead of 30% (assuming Miles D-day is a permanent fixture). I ran the numbers and for me the full Platinum suite wasn’t worth it.

On Black, you can also get higher PnP/Woolies discounts on Suite.

If you need a high-end iPhone, you'll also be able to get a better model on Suite.

Yes, definitely. Closed mine in January. Process was fairly quick and easy by phoning their call centre.

The process was simple. Called them and they did a follow up the next day. Request actioned.

Hmmm so the difference is subtle but I guess it depends on the individual...

Thanks for the detail, it was a bit difficult trying to weigh up between all the different variables across the different products!

I'm on Platinum credit card only now, but the plan is I'll get full suite once the new iPhones come out. My fees will go up R120, but my phone subsidy will go up by R140 (and I get the added benefit of a little more interest and discount).

Anyone else not getting any Active rewards money points? I’ve got the savings balance to be eligible, and did enough transactions this past Saturday to already meet the goal (all transactions cleared). Is it just Vitality being weird?

Four emails and three phone calls later: problem still not solved.

One overeager consultant declared that I don’t have the minimum saving balance (not true) and closed my query.

Now they’ve escalated to what I presume is the non-useless level.

Missed out on two gameboard plays today, and looking the same for next week.

Anyone here with the purple card? Is there really any advantage of getting it instead of black either than the card being made of metal lol?

Main benefit is the better iPhone and 75% international flights.

I did some calculations regarding the move from gold suite to platinum and it seems it will only be worth it for the iPhone benefit (which I will only use when my current contract expire end of next year).

My spend band is between 12k and 13k per month which means I won’t get the higher %cashback from healthy food, gear etc.

So the additional R60 per month for platinum will negate the benefit of the miles ratio 20/1 vs 15/1.

I must say, it’s quite interesting that you can get any colour card you want with discovery. As long as you pay the fees, they really don’t check if you earn that much.

Yep Indeed, they make more bucks in bank fees that way also

Can it not work against you though like for your retirement points (percent of income) and extra diamond points for x times your salary in savings, interesting if it works for you for debt as percent of income
