Discovery Bank

Got an email yesterday saying time to sign up. Tried to go in via the health app and it gave me the lousy details screen. This eve I thought about it. And went to the email. Tapped on the app link. Went into the app and it accepted my details so I guess my ID was white listed for sign up.
So now I am waiting for the card. Went with the el cheapo option of gold to see how this puppy works. As much as I bitch about all things discovery, I am a sucker for the gamification. So let’s see how it works... I won’t be putting salary into it, but doesn’t seem like that’s a requirement at this stage.

Edit: regarding comments on no of products etc.
I did the sign up for interest possibly a week after they opened that up.
I do not have a discovery card anymore, but did have 1 up until abt 4-5yrs ago.
And my products with them are Health+Vitality+Company Group Life cover.
I have the same plus CC. No joy though

Got my invite today. Busy trying to set everything up.

I see under Money Tools -> Manage Your Data -> some of the information needs to be verified within 130 days to keep the allocated points, how exactly do I do that?

Does anyone know if the dynamic discounts show your total savings including your Discovery Healthy Vitality discounts, Discovery drive discounts and the discovery bank discounts or is it only Discovery Bank discounts?
View attachment 687217I would assume its your total discount access all your products?

Experience
Like everyone else in this thread. The move to Discovery Bank has been very underwhelming. The fact that Only Black accounts get Airport lounge access, 100% off Premier gym memberships and 35% extra off flights on top of the vitality discount prove there is no real benefit here. The extra amount on Vitality Healthyfoods, healthy care and healthy gear are nice but are still capped anyways and it only increases on your store choice(IE if you got 25% off at Woolworths and only 10% at PNP, then your Woolies cashback will go up with Discovery Bank but PNP will remain 10%?!)

Gold Status to Diamond
It looks like moving from Gold to Diamond is not based on the years you have been with Discovery Bank but rather the amount you have saved with them in particular:
View attachment 687201
As you can see I need to save R44,000 with Discovery bank to move to Diamond despite already having enough money saved to have got the full point allocation for savings.

No Discovery Miles?!
This part blows my mind. Upgrading to Discovery Bank will lose me money because it sounds like I will not be getting my miles or my 10X multiplier. They are actually charging me more and I am losing money. If I knew this beforehand I would have not "upgraded" to Discovery bank.

Dynamic Rate
Here are the rates I am getting with a Platinum account with Gold status:
View attachment 687213

In all, don't get frustrated for not having an account yet if you are patiently waiting, You might just be saving more by not moving after all.
You're lucky to have been given points.. My points are sitting on 0, but the slider shows as full.

I finally got my mail today. Unfortunately the app keeps crashing on Iphone every time I reach the "take a selfie" stage. I'll give it another go later today, other wise I'd have to give them a call.
Also got invite today via phonecall, e-mail has not arrived yet). I had the same issue on iPhone, phone restart has fixed it for me. I am running the latest version of the app (1.0.17) both when it crashed, and still now after restarting the phone where it is working.

Trying to figure out what the actual cost of the account is going to be before going too far down their signup process.

Can anyone here confirm for the Platinum CC what it really costs?
Because its either
A. R60 (as per https://www.discovery.co.za/bank/discovery-credit-card-comparison)
B. R90 (R60 + R30 vitlaity money)
C. R120 (R60 + R30 vitality money + R30 A single credit facility fee) (from https://www.discovery.co.za/bank/discovery-card-fees)

A. is obviously useless as it does not include the rewards stuff, but is it B or C? Trying to figure out how much I need to get back to make their game worth it.

I'm trying to avoid a phone call to them if possible, and would prefer an actual reult from someone using it in any case.

Guys, got the invite, wanted to see what the costs are, but it wants me to submit all pictures and stuff before I even know what product and price is??

Anyone done it and can tell me what the options are?

Sorry if this is a retarded question, I just can't find it anywhere??

Kekekeke useless bank!

Thanks, that's what I thought. Trying to figure out what level it would make sense to try and play their game at, I want to try and get this to at least break even initially. With the goal to make this work like eBucks where I am the one getting the benefit.

Looks like it's going to be the platinum CC then, Gold doesn't have the HealthyCare benefits and black looks dicey to get to break even on without more detail on what their thresholds and rules for the extra healthycare and heathyfood cashbacks are. Although the higher Healthyfood cashback on black is tempting.

Does anyone who is currently on Vitality money status = Silver have a snapshot of what their dynamic discounts are?

On platinum CC at least (From what people have posted so far)
Diamond = Full discount
Gold = 0.6 * Max (for Healthyfood and Healthycare at least), so 25% + 15% = 40% total
Info on silver would be awesome to be able to feed into my spreadsheet

Does anyone know if there is an effect on existing Discovery Life policy when adding a bank account?
Website makes it look like new policies would be cheaper if you bank with them.
I have sent a query to my broker for an official answer, but maybe someone here already knows?

I'm on Silver, but a big factor is cc spend and savings amount.
I'm in silver money status, but all is sitting at 25%

Thanks man, gonna have to devote some substantial time to going through this - plus, I can't see the major benefit of just getting a credit card as opposed to the account?

Agreed on the miles, because you get miles for every rand you spend and then x10 for shopping and filling up at certain places... now it seems like we only get the benefit when we either fill up, buy healthy food or fly??

Can you send a screen shot of what your cash is for fuel please?

What's your fuel discount sitting at?

It seems they will be replacing miles with rewards that can be converted to real cash. Lots of information missing regarding actual numbers like how to get weekly rewards, etc.

EDIT: Went through the e-mail I received and found a link with the following point:

So a worse ratio (R20 per mile) on the new Gold card. Although there are conflicting stories on the app vs this website (app says R15 per mile even on Gold card)

See now this makes no sense, because the consultant I spoke to tonight said you can't keep earning miles with new account and credit card

edit: combined multiple responses into one response

Fuel is 50% though drive insurance and 0% on vitality money.

As far as the miles go I'm so confused as well. Their consultant also said I won't be getting any on the new cc yet their Facebook account told me I will get

It's at 0 on vitality money?? But it says up to 15%, surely you're meant to get something from being on silver?

As for this miles things, I can't believe that no one actually knows... i guess proof is in the pudding, are your miles still accumulating on the new account?

The only benefit I would get would be the fuel benefit really (being the only new benefit) that I would hope would have helped neutralize the loss of not having miles...

Yip 0% I think it's because I'm below the average spend of R4500 a month who knows they haven't sent any brochure.

Miles well I have my existing miles but I only got the new cc last week so if I get my miles it will only be next month, when I go onto their website it gives me the option to activate miles for R435 but their consultant told me not to as the miles benefit is on hold,

PS it's supposed to be up to 20% back.
I've sent them an email asking how to increase it yet I'm on Silver money status.

Though basically impossible to get 50% and it was capped at R800 last time I was on it. I could get around to 30% back, 50% meant driving near perfect.

Fnb now gives 50% just for being on level 5 and have car finance with wesbank.

Yes it's capped at R800 ,so I get 50% but capped at R800

So with regards to miles. You gonna get and be able to use your miles but only from September including your back spend before September. They will transfer your remaining miles now so you can use them.

So another words you will still get your miles for your current spend but it will appear and be able to use these new miles from September. That’s what the consultant said.
