This is very confusing. At this URL https://www.discovery.co.za/bank/discovery-banking-suite-comparison , they state "Up to 100% back on gym memberships "

I think I am going to have to give them a call to figure this all out.
It is rather confusing, especially to people who aren’t familiar with Discovery’s products. But you definitely need the full vitality (R259pm) linked to either a health- or a life insurance policy to qualify for gym. I don’t even think you get 25% back with bank if you don’t have vitality, since you join the gym as a vitality member and pay an activation fee unique to vitality members. But maybe call to make sure?

It seems the website has changed and now I can't find anything. was able to check the healthyfood card number on the app though. And I have the option to link it to my SmartShopper card which would mean not having to carry 2 cards.

I don’t see a healthy card number under my profile

Totally new to Discovery , started with their banking.

Healthy food = vitality health/life. If you only have bank you won’t have a healthy food card.

I prefer woolworths because your healthyfood card is automatically linked to your store card. so with every shop - whether you buy healthy foods or not, it will register with discovery and count towards your basket percentage. so i always make sure that at least 90% of the stuff I buy from WW is on the healthyfood list.

with pick n pay it's a separate card so i can choose when to use it - this way i won't get penalized for buying "unhealthy" food (ie full fat milk).
You can now link your PnP smartshopper card directly to Discovery, you no longer need the healthy food card. I have no idea how it works, but it is clear on the discovery web site that you can it. Was changed about a week ago

Discovery is all about the cross-sell. The banking benefits are mostly a furthering of the Discovery Health and Insure benefits - so clients are incentivised to take out all products and moving away becomes very difficult. It's a shrewd business tactic, but the rewards also add up nicely when one is fully in the ecosystem.

I've just signed up for insure. Can anyone guide me on how the vitality drive benefits work? It doesn't seem to reflect for me in the main app, only in the drive app. When does weekly progress reflect (for active rewards)? I don't see my progress circle moving as my event free kms add up. Also, will the dashboard on the website only update at month-end? Thanks in advance!

I have 3 HealthFood cards. One came when I first joined with Discovery Bank but then another was also in my mail box and the third came when I upgraded my card. How do I find out or know which is the one to use?
The card number will be on the Discovery web site, under vitality, then rewards, wait a few minutes for it to load, go the PnP sections, select learn more and there should be a section to replace your card ( it is called healthyfood partner cards). It should also state the current card number there

Drive is really broken when you start with it. I just switched back and my km also not showing up yet. When it was working it showed up almost instantly after it uploaded.

Took about 3 months to get it working last time. Once it is was working it will show the trips in the app, currently mine records and uploads but does not show the trips taken.

The dashboard only updates around the 10th of each month. You will have no data in the dashboard until the 10th of next month.

The active rewards circle also does not work correctly in month 1 on the app. You should however still be getting the active rewards weekly if you make the 100km event free distance. It should update to "Achieved" on Saturday late afternoon (at the latest) on the app if you made the 100km event free trip even though the circle did not move

It takes about 3 months for your drive history to build up and for Discovery to accurately allocate you drive points.

If you want to check if the DQ Track is working and that Discovery is receiving the data, you can view your trips in the DQ Mapper, not sure how it works if you are using the cell phones based device.

My smartshopper is integrated into Tymebank so it fails when I try to link - Discovery did not think this banking thing through to be honest.

Yea they lied outright. I took them to the ASA, nothing happened as usual.

To get 100% you need the ank account (25%)
+
Either Life insurance minimum spend R300
OR
Medical minimum spend R1077
+
Vitality @ R250

Ah well, that is dissapointing.

It might be that they did actually think it through and they are actively blocking linking to 2 rewards systems (not familiar with Tymebank and if this is a rewards programme offered by the bank)?

I'm undecided whether the 'healthy banking' is a good idea or not, and judging by some of the comments here, I'm not the only one.

I think the idea of interest rates linked to one's vitality status is a novel enough idea. Not so sure about the spend requirements though.

I personally think how much and how frequently one spends is a deeply personal thing.

Certainly in my case I strive for simplicity and a minimalist financial approach. Unfortunately I will be 'penalised' if I had to take this approach with Discovery Bank.

Then they are blocking me from using Pick 'n Pay as my primary.

Smart shopper and Tymebank is one. You get it integrated with your card. They should have stuck to medical.

Smart shopper points accumulate excruciatingly slowly. Not sure how much better they become with Tyme; but even the lowest threshold of 25% back on healthy food beats any return you're going to get on purely spend based systems.

Tymebank is double the smart shopper and it count for everywhere and on anything, so whether I spend on shoes at Mr price or buy a TV at game I get smart shopper points.

Discovery does not come close, but that not the issue, the issue is discovery wants you to link a smart shopper blue card you don't get that with Tyme you get that all thing integrated and I can't get a new smartshopper card because it's linked to my ID which is linked to an active account (Tymebank).

As far as rewards goes it's

Question: With regards to the PnP Cash Back, Discovery Sent a healthy foods card with the Credit Card, so I need to have a Smart Shopper Card and this Healthy Foods card? Does it have to be swiped in any order? Healthy Foods -> Smart Shopper -> Discovery Card?
