Discovery Vitality [2017]

Any links to decent guide on hitting Gold this year?

Do we do the smokers and Aids test still at the wellness and do we get the bonus for them both as per prior year?
I assume Healthyfood is the same as prior years, up to max of 1000pts / month and the same for Vitality Good driving (500 per car)?

Log in to Discovery website. Click Vitality on the top menu. On the left you will see How to get to Gold. That gives all the details. You still do the smokers as part of a slightly different assessment from previous years, and you do the HIV test. Healthy Foods still the same.

Summary of changes to points. Good guide to use, is the image at the end.
Seems points will be fairly easy this year after reviewing it a couple of times.

Vitality assessments and points updates for 2017 – rewarding you for healthy behaviour

The Vitality programme is designed to help you get healthier. It has been proven that you can make a significant impact on your health when you take steps to change your lifestyle. In order to reward you for the steps you are taking to get healthier, in 2017 we are enhancing some of our assessments and screenings to be more personalised, and aligned to positive health outcomes, and we have updated the Vitality points structures.

We will be introducing the following updates in 2017:

1) Vitality status threshold changes

The initial steps in embarking on a journey towards good health have high health benefits for you.

The points threshold required to reach Bronze and Silver will be lowered in 2017.
A single member will need 10 000 points to get to Bronze and 30 000 points to get to Silver in 2017.
Gold and Diamond status thresholds remain unchanged

2) Combining all online assessments into one Vitality Age assessment

All online assessments will be consolidated into one integrated Vitality Age assessment, and you can now earn 2 500 Vitality points for finding out your Vitality Age. This means that the Online Fitness Assessment and Mental Wellbeing Assessments will be falling away.

3) Earn more points with the Vitality Health Check

The Vitality Health Check has been enhanced. It will now be made up of 5 measures (including blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, a weight assessment and signing a non-smokers declaration), and you can earn up to 20 000 Vitality points depending on how many results are in range.

During the course of 2017, at risk members will be able to have an HbA1c and/or a Lipogram test as part of the Vitality Health Check so that we can detect diabetes and cardiovascular disease early, and manage it effectively.

4) Updates to the Vitality Fitness Assessment

The Vitality Fitness Assessment will become a more in-depth and tailored assessment, allowing for personalised feedback on your fitness and mobility.

You can earn up to 7 500 Vitality points once a year depending on your fitness level. These points will form part of the 30 000 points you can earn for fitness in the year.
If you are a high performance athlete you can also do the Vitality High Performance Fitness Assessment, and can earn up to 10 000 Vitality points for completing it. These points will be earned in addition to the overall 30 000 points you can earn for fitness in the year.

5) Introducing Vitality Weight Loss Rewards

Our new weight loss programme, Vitality Weight Loss Rewards, will be replacing the traditional Vitality Nutrition Consultation. This programme will incentivise members whose BMI and waist circumference are out of range to lose weight over a series of 12-week cycles. These members can earn up to 11 050 points per year.

All Vitality members can also earn 1 000 points for visiting a dietitian in 2017.

6) Points for kids

Because we are focusing on evidence-based incentives, points for activities which have no or low correlation to health outcomes have been removed or reduced. This includes reducing points for certain kids’ assessments. Be sure to take your kids for all their vaccinations, and get them active too to earn more points. Remember, healthy kids become healthy adults.

7) Points for members over 60

Given that effective screening is critical for the early detection of, and intervention in, lifestyle-related conditions. From 2017, members over 60 will have the ability to earn up to 5 000 additional points for completing certain screenings and having certain vaccinations.

8) Managing Diabetes

A new and specialised programme called DiabetesCare has been designed to provide well-coordinated care for people with diabetes. This will help you manage your condition, reduce the risk of complications, improve your health and prolong your life.

Members can earn up to 7 200 points a year through DiabetesCare.

9) Replacing Personal Health Programmes

The introduction of Vitality Weight Loss Rewards and DiabetesCare will replace the existing Lose Weight and Manage Diabetes Personal Health Programmes that we have. Healthy Heart will also be falling away from 2017. If you are currently on a Personal Health Programme, you will receive information on your next steps.

You can do the non-smokers declaration when you do the wellness test according to the above info I linked. At point #3.

3) Earn more points with the Vitality Health Check

Screening and assessments. (27 500)
- 5 measures up to 20 000 (blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, a weight assessment and signing a non-smokers declaration)
- vitality age 2500
- hiv test 5000

Dietitian (1000)

Fitness test(up to 7500, I expect at least 5000)

So for me thats 33 500 points without having set foot in the gym or doing any activities.

Then only need 16 500 points from activities. 1375 points a month, for 12 months. Thats 350 points a week at least. And that is if they don't change the rules again multiple times this year for getting activity points.

I see now why people are interested in the weight loss category, another extra easy 11 000 points, if they dont take too long to enable it this year.

And then, there are the Healthy Food points. Even on a LCHF diet (ie not what Discovery is in favour of), I managed to get 6760 points last year.

Dietician (1000) ... not something I'd do.

There is a reduction in kids points btw, just saw now.. last year little on easily gave us 5500 with checks which will now net 1500 (health reviews and flu).

Interesting.. anyway we do the health checks & flu shot in April.

Dietitian takes like 5 minutes once they realize you do it with them every year and that they don't have anything new to suggest. In the past I did the wellness day, dietitian, hiv, fitness tests all in one go at Virgin Active in Durbanville on a saturday morning. So its not like it took much extra time.

Hi
Is Discovery App broken again. I updated to latest version and now it won't load "points events" or "gym tracker" My active rewards are there but it hasn't uploaded today's step count and i can't see whether it has synced or not without "points events" reflecting. I have a Garmin...anyone else having issues?

I also noted that there have been no updates regarding my points on the app after I updated it.

I also use a Garmin and my points from yesterday are also not reflecting.

Vitality seem to be starting the year by managing expectations. This is what you can expect from us for the rest of the year so get used to it from day 1.

Also tried to do the Vitality Age twice now and both times it just crashed when it should give me the results. Makes me go through the whole test and then crashes, instead of not being available.

They are putting in serious effort to make sure they are maximally irritating.

My wife received her 1st 50 points for walking today the 3rd, for the 1st of January, using Polar A360. So that at least works, just takes a while to come in.

Try logging in again. The app seems wonky. Fingerprint scan is gone, constant crashing when trying to view "Points events" My run this morning reflected. Noticed the points when logging into website and then I logged back in to find the points reflecting in active rewards as well as vitality status. Still can't access "points events" though...

I am using an M600. Did a 1hr 13min workout on the treadmill yesterday at Avg heart rate of 137...check today and they awarded me 100 points for 10k steps?? Can anyone hrlp

which is why they nerfed points slightly.. last time i went i got >3k points.

Personally I really don't see the value add a dietician makes visiting annually hence i never use it unless i really have to.

Just wait a little bit. I also had the same thing. Did a workout yesterday for HR points, and only got the steps points. Eventually came through this afternoon.

If the points haven't come through after 48 hours, email [email protected]

You got 5k points.

But yeah, it was kind of useless. Not going to go for 1000 points - didn't really listen to the advice.

I think the dental check-up will be a better use of time/points.
