Discovery Vitality [2017]

If your average heart rate was below 90% of age related max but above 70% you would only get 100 points (300 points for going above 90%). But 10000 steps is also 100 points. They only take one, i.e. you wouldn't get 100 for 10000 steps and another 100 for a 70-90% of max heart rate workout, so it is possible that if your workout was more than 10000 steps they used that instead of the workout.
Two separate days. Monday was over an hour...

I am really battling to reach my target HR because I am on beta blockers (chronic). Does anyone know if there is a way that I can get Discovery to lower my target HR? Keeping my HR above 150 for 30 minutes is really not all that doable.
Interesting. I also take in morning which I guess explains why I struggle to get my heart rate up during day gym. By evening no problem. Avg went up from 137 to 151 day vs night

They'll just tell you to wait 48 hours. I'm using a Samsung gear S2
They actually said they looking into it. But I think they gonna say I granted discovery access to my profile ten minutes after the gym session.

PS - I have my mom on my medical aid so by default she is on vitality. Prob is she doesn't do gym. Any tips for reaching gold?

I have a question here on the gym membership benefit.

I signed up in 2005 for it and have been on it continuously since then so I'm currently not paying anything for using a single nominated club. I want to change to classic so I can go to Alice Lane and Melrose Arch but the prices listed are different between the various classic clubs. Does this mean if you sign up at Melrose Arch you can't go to the more expensive ones, as it is cheaper?

I think you can, but you would have to speak to VA to confirm. I'm on the same benefit but with Planet Fitness. Was also considering changing to another branch.

Discovery said that from their side, as long as its to another Planet Fitness, it wont impact the benefit. All that matters is that Planet Fitness approves the change. If I were to change to VA, the "free" benefit falls away and the new rules apply.

So I'm guessing that you need to chat to VA and see if they approve the change.

Went to see them today. Joining the Melrose Arch gym on the old benefit is actually seen as a premier membership which allows visits to Melrose Arch + any VA gym worldwide, except "collection" gyms (i.e. classic). So there is no loophole, and holy smokes it's gotten expensive! :wtf: Trying to work out if R893 a month is worth the convenience...

Excuse my ignorance but what are the extra conveniences.

Signed up for Team Vitality for Cycling. See that this year they don't include the CSA license .. I am certain it was included last year :( Can someone confirm?

Can anybody provide insight into what is done when you go for a biokineticist checkup. It says test lasts 45 minutes ... just want to know what I could be in for ..

I did mine in Dec, the biokineticist said that the tests for 2017 will be different from the 2016 test. As Discovery is getting stricter.

For my test she asked some health questions, did the body fat check, a step up exercise for 2 min in time with a beat, checked heart rate after that, a lunge test to see if my hips stayed straight, a flexibility test and the final thing was too see how many push ups I could do in a minute.

I really have to put in a LOT of effort for extended periods to get my HR above 150. Really pushed it on my morning jog today and got to an average of 135.

The previous tests were a complete joke and many service providers just skipped the tests altogether (other than the stepping test with the metronome - but even there they did not do the full 12 minutes).

The proper test (last year) should have been:
- Basic measurements: weight, height, waist-cm, chest-cm etc
- 4 x stepping test. I can't remember duration but it was different metronome speeds with a pause in between. The test was done with a HR strap.
- Straight leg raise (left / right) - testing your flexibility
- Sit & reach - can you touch your toes
- How many crunches can you do in 60 seconds - I just remember anything over 75 was excellent (I just remember that I was pissed that I could only do 65 and was wondering how you can get 75)
- Pushups in 60 seconds - anything above 35 was excellent

I am not going to do this year's test as it is a complete waste of time and similar to the dietician, most providers don't even perform the correct test (except the Discovery wellness centres).

Thanks. Looks hectic when done 'properly'..

I will fail a few of those so should get practice sit ups and push ups. I normally wouldn't do this test either but it's a good way to get points to ensure I can remain on gold status.

The points was only calculated on the fitness part of the test.

I'm hoping you guys can help. My points events screen on my app isn't showing what points I am getting but my points count is increasing.

I'm looking for 2 more team members for Active rewards, PM me.

Does anyone know if I delete and reinstall my Discovery App will it loose all my health data that it reads from Health App on IOS?
