Discovery Vitality [2017]

Yeah, the lady at the clinic said the same, anytime after the 1st Jan 2018 you can do you vitality health check for the points.

Close but no cigar..

U allowed to be tested as many times as you please but it can be claimed only once(free benefit, else it’s R263).

For the result to be valid for that year, the health check needs to be administered minimum 6 (if I remember correctly) months after the last one of the year before. Ie if you do in dec, next time is June.

The reason is to prevent a window period 18 months of no reading each year. Typically you do the test annually at the same time give or take 3 months.

Ps. I don’t see reference to the 6 month wait between annual tests but really this was specified when you use to get 2 tests per annum where they needed to also be 3 months apart too

I think with the benefits to healthy foods you want to do the health check early in the year to get maximum use of the healthy food benefit (25% cashback)

Healthy Food benefit (25% cashback) only activates post checks so best to get it done(check ups) early in year to get max cash back else capped at 10% (online assessment)

But I think previous year's health check keeps the 25% cash back valid for 12 months...

No, it resets on 1 January which really makes no sense but hey thats Vitality for you.

edit: I speak under correction, mine hasn't reset yet for 2018, but it did last year on 01/01/2017 IIRC.

Can one cancel one's DiscoveryCard by emailing them at DiscoveryCard[at]discovery.co.za ? Do they process the cancellation on the day or next business day?

I have a DisChem reward that expires tomorrow if anyone wants it.

There is no annual reset as far as I know

Yeah, Vitality rewards, while using the same measurement criteria are distinct from normal Vitality points - I doubt there will be a reset.

Can anybody provide insight into what is done when you go for a biokineticist checkup. It says test lasts 45 minutes ... just want to know what I could be in for ..

cost has shot up to R400 for this test. can be claimed back from savings if you have.
It is normal things such as blood pressure. how far you can stretch. Walking on a stepper with a heart rate monitor. Doing situps. Pushups.

Folks, does anyone know what is the simplest/cheapest solution to get a heart rate monitor/device that is compliant/compatible with Discovery Vitality's systems?

Ideally something that reports via the Apple Health app, as that appears to be the easiest, but I don't want to spend so much on an Apple Watch.

Accuracy does not have to be the best, I just want something that can be used from time to time and gets Vitality points.
stick with well known brands. I use a polar HRM and M400 - was R2200 about two years ago. Sportmans Warehouse have specials from time to time. SUUNTO is also a trust name but more expensive.
HRM needs batteries - can cost a fortune.
Good luck with finding what suits you!

I would rather phone them.
Thanks, i did once i got a chance. The consultant told me in order for them to process the account closure quicker, it's best to have a zero balance on the account (if you had a credit balance, remember to leave R4.75 in the account for the transaction fee of transferring funds out).

You have to fill out an account closure form which they send you and then the turn-around time is 2 days he said. But once you send in the form you should be good in terms of no more charges. In my case my billing date is around the 8th.

I see that the 300 points for the park run I did on Saturday 30 December is gone. Only noticed this today. Are weekly points also reset at the start of the year? Now I need to get 500 points in 3 days which is impossible as I don't use a heart rate monitor. And I lose my 20 week reward streak as well as my gym and shoe discounts for the month.

My 200 points for polar workout on saturday 30 december is not in the vitality points (on 0 there), but I still have it in the active rewards for the week.
