Discovery Vitality [2018]

If you under 30 you can get the smart life plan which allows 100% payback on your premium.

So you pay for Smart life, get Vitality, and then by hitting goals you get 100% pack on the Smart life premium and 100% back on the gym premium?

Just an FYI for everyone else... Virgin Active has a special on at the moment... If you're 18-25 years old, you pay R499 pm and get access to all Virgin Active gyms (except the Classic Collection ones). And for Sigining up in May you get the sign up free waived (R2000) and your first month free. Also, if you say a friend referred you, they get a month off as well. Excellent value for money.

I think so. Don’t know exactly how smart life plan works but what they try to do is to get you on it and by 30 persuade you to keep it after 30.

With regards to the virgin active special. I doubt it’s applicable to discovery members cause it will probably count as a double special.

I'm not sure, but I think it is.

Basically you're paying a discounted premium to Virgin Active thanks to their speical. The fact that you get your premium discounted by Vitality is a seperate matter, which applies to all members who belong to Vitality and the gym booster thing.

Of course, I may be wrong.

Just called Virgin. The no activation fee promotion only applies to regular sign-ups and not for Vitality/Momentum/etc sign-ups.

Sad.

Still waiting for a good promotion to join. Wife and I have much better things to spend R4k on at the moment.

Sign up without the Multiply/Vitality and then add it on after a month?

Nah, asked about that ages ago. Converting to vitality based membership would still incur the R2000 activation fee.

Activation fee for normal gym members is something like R300 afaik.

Had a Virgin sub and is great but my working hours are crap so will sign up again if they go 24/7. There is one I know of that are open all the time 25fit in Benoni but a bit out of my way. Will be great if Discovery also support the smaller gyms through subbing them.

apple workout at > 80% heart rate only gives 100 points

I used to do my workouts with my garmin watch and you consistently earn 300 points for e.g 35 min workout at 80 % max hr.
I swapped to using my apple watch 3 and now the same workout gives me only 100 points ?
Apple workout: Taking 10 000 or more steps

Seems like my heart rate is no longer taken into consideration?

Anyone know what the issue could be ?

Check sources in your health app. Make sure the watch is there and on top of the list.

Also, you need to use the workout app on the Apple Watch.

Does anyone have trouble with Apple Watch registering heart beats while working out?

My wife lost 200 points last week because the work out never registered as having happened on Friday and because it takes a few days some times to show up in the app.

But she reckons that the heart rate is not always being picked up correctly. Could be the watch itself perhaps?

Noticed that when I run. Think it was too loose and times so bummer. I wear it where I cannot get a finger through the watch and arm. On my arm it is two holes left.

Yep, my watch(series 2) has been like for a while, sometimes it shows in the 60's when it's actually in the 130's. Apparently it has something to do with blood-flow to the arm during certain exercises. For example, if you lift a weight you restrict blood flow to your arm, but it still happens when I just run sometimes so... :(
Also my watch has a syncing problem every once in a while: The watch indicates that it is connected to your iphone, but it actually isn't, so workouts don't get sent to the health app.

My steps:
1. Check watch that workout recorded/registered
2. Check iPhone in health app that it recorded/synced
3. Open Discovery app, go to Vitality, open Devices and Apps, selsct Health App and Sync Data
4. Close and Kill Discovery app.

has been showing my workout within 10 minutes every time since following these

I’ve got the same issue with a Samsung gear S3 and a Fitbit hr.
I tend to use both when I go to gym.

You have to try and experiment with them.
Like wearing the strap higher, lower or tighter.
Change wrists etc.

Sometimes with the S3 I can get a 200 or 300 for working in the garden.
Then I’d do a 30 minutes HIIT session on the treadmill or elliptical and not even get 100, when the machine
tells me I’m over 150 bpm.

My girlfriend usually gets a 300 when she uses my Fitbit.
I got very few 300’s with my own Fitbit, when I use hers I usually get a 200 or 300.

For accurate and consistent readings, a chest strap will be better.

So for the week ending Friday 18 May my goal was 350 which I achieved by the 17th. It went up to 400 on the 19th and then I didn't make goal since then, so then by this morning (2 June) it had dropped back down to 350. I'll make goal for the week ending 1 June but as it was a gym workout (card swipe) they will only register the goal having been made by next Wednesday.

Interesting that it dropped so quickly after only 2 weeks of not making goal.

Can someone help me confirm a few things before I get into this Vitality hamster wheel.

1) Can you get vitality points from all the Samsung Gear watches? Specifically the Gear Fit 2 Pro?

2) Will I still get points from the watch using a non-Samsung android phone? If I install the S-Health and Gear and Discovery apps on it?

3) Will it work if I load the apps on the iPhone?

Thanks!

Haven't used Samsung health but I see on the devices page that it is supported. Vitality doesn't really speak with your phone/app/device directly, but rather with the Samsung Health website that all your workouts get uploaded to via the app. So if your workouts are reflecting on your Samsung Health web service then Discovery will see them as well and award points accordingly, regardless of how they were uploaded there.

hi, just got my fitbit Alta HR, so i get 100 pts for 10000 steps and go to gym (100 pts) at the same time. Hence 200 pts a day?
My wife only do 5000 steps, my colleagues told me i can only get 1000 pts max for doing 5000 steps each year. is this true?
