Discovery Vitality [2018]

What, maybe dropping the Parkrun?! Luckily I'm not dependent on those 300pts. If it was up to Discovery they would hook us up on multiple monitoring devices and 24/7 GPS surveillance (and bill us for the privilege) in order to "earn" a free smoothie. I get it, you want your data as clean as possible so you can sell it to the highest bidder. We constantly have to jump through hoops and then struggle with the app not working, device not synching, invalid vouchers or them changing the goal posts. I was a huge supporter of the rewards system when it launched 2 years ago, now its becoming more work than its worth. Exercise should be fun, not a pain.

Or they should reduce it to 200pts then it will require one to do some other HR exercise

Yeah, but then people will complain that they have to spend the money on a HR device - which isn't cheap. If Discovery does this, then they need to enable people to work towards a free HR device along the lines of the shoe booster and flight booster - and for Android as well, not just Apple, and without requiring people to get a Discovery Card. Though I guess it's their right to set conditions around their programme however they want. I think they've done a pretty good job at trying to incentivise people to exercise regularly. It's impossible to get a perfect system that pleases everyone.

Device booster is going to be launched soon

I think dropping it to 100pts (participation ie like a Gym swipe in) and 300pts with a tracker and via HR or Speed data.

If they did that you will see 50% less people at Parkrun

IN YOUR FACE DISCOVERY!

Sorry for the caps. I'm happy because it looks like the FAIS Ombudsman took my side in the complaint. Discovery has agreed to close my account without that form. They required phone authorization which I gave.

They did say that, despite common misconception, phone cancellation is actually an option. If you ever want to close your Discovery account and don't want to complete that account closure form, refer them to this thread.

^ Nice one Ancalagon :) That was only about a 2 week turnaround time for the ombudsman to weigh in?

Yeah it was about 2 weeks.

It is interesting that Discovery absolutely refused to allow phone cancellation and then this Discovery agent confirmed that phone cancellation was actually an option. Like, this whole thing could have been avoided if they had just said that. I really think they want to make it as difficult as possible for you to cancel.

The FAIS ombudsman employee who contacted confirmed that Discovery contacted me after the Ombudsman contacted Discovery. Just shows you what you sometimes have to do to get some justice.

^ Yeah that's ridiculous, you have to show them the stick to have them respect your rights!

On another note, do you guys think Vitality should award us Capetonians 100 points each time we go collect our 25 litres after DZ hits? ;)

PM if interested with your choice of reward.

With the water crisis.. will Discovery lower the targets for members in those areas by 50% (they can’t go to gym) ?

Maybe include your case number or some other identifier that can be quoted and directly checked at the ombudsman, this thread by itself is not an authoritative source.
