Discovery Vitality 2021

I haven't delved too much into the benefits of Vitality. Mostly got it because of the massive discount it gets me at the gym. But can someone explain to me what are the benefits of going up to bronze, silver, etc? Last year it meant getting a bigger discount when spending your miles. I think 5% at blue, 10% at bronze, 15% at silver and so on.

But this year you just get a 5% discount regardless of your level and instead get bigger discounts if you have other Discovery products like a Discovery Bank account (an additional 5%) and car insurance (an additional 5%) etc. So what is the point of going up in Vitality health levels? What are the benefits?
The biggest attraction for me is the increased discounts on flights and car-hire. The gym discount is also worthwhile but Discovery's reputation took a nosedive in my books when it said, 'We're decreasing your gym discount by 10%... but if you sign up to Discovery Bank, you'll get that 10% back.'

Aside from that, there's very little that makes Vitality worthwhile today. It's an 'all-in' scenario now and the value proposition of doing so isn't even remotely feasible to me.

Interesting. Still getting my 75% discount at Planet Fitness even though I don't have a Discovery Bank account yet. And won't leave FNB and ebucks for Discovery. Ear R200+ a month in ebucks while I barely get R50 in discovery miles a month with their stupid little game board.

Biggest drivers for me is the flights discount, cashback from Woolies and Dischem and the gym discount.

Gym discount + pnp discount/cashback. Plus I enjoy doing the checkups and could join the vitality running club as well.

Discounted flights. That’s about it.

But to be honest, if you max your health checks (which you want to do for the PnP/Woolies discount), you're going to get to at least Gold whether you like it or not.

Yeah.
I was on health only for a long time and pnp hf cashback, plus the gym discount and free movies for kids was the main benefit.

Yeah.

Yeah, but the HealthyFood cashback doesn’t depend on your level. You can be Bronze and getting the full 25% benefit. It purely depends on your health checks.

Diamond is good for flight discounts, and seemingly also gym discount, maybe movies (I have no idea about gym and movies - I don’t use these).

I make R400-R500 per month on Discovery (bank/medical aid).

R50 sounds atrocious, I'm earning R2k + back a month at the moment, between miles and fuel cashback

So we're paying R305 a month for Vitality next year.

I don't understand why I don't earn more. Take my 10,000 steps a day 5 days a week. Go to the gym 6 days a week. Reach my exercise goal every week. And all I get for my trouble is a play on the game board where I usually get only R15 a week. Ona good week, R25. Why the hell am I not earning more just for reaching my goals???

Major earn will come from buying HealthyFood and Healthycare.

For me, Vitality is only worth it if you’re in on Health, Money, and Drive. Others disagree, but without Money, the rewards wouldn’t be worth it for me.

Agree with you on that. You need to get the full suite of products in order to get the full benefit.

I currently have Health and Money and ensure that I'm on diamond status for Vitality which ends up getting me about R500-R700 back per month for health food.

Na you've reached the max you can.

You need to be a Bank client and really (for real, like really really) commit to improving your Vitality Money status.

I'm on Bronze status and making about R1000 in miles a month. Could double that if I was ok Platinum status

When is the cut off for getting points. Do you have until the end of the year to get to a certain status or do you need to complete assessments within a year of doing them previously. Like the health assessment etc for example

Cut off is 31 December each year.

1 January point will reset to 0.
