Diwali Fireworks

How on earth am I supposed to know every single person of the thousands in my neighbourhood who this year are likely to set off fireworks?

Please think this through and tell if you think that this is feasible in any manner whatsoever?

By neighbourhood I imply street as I cannot fathom how a firework lit in another street would harm you. I understand some are loud but how loud can they really be?

Are you aware of how sound travels? Are you aware of how wind works? Do you recall simple trigonometry from school? The sounds travels in all directions. Those rockets shot into the sky from a distance (i.e. in the neighbourhood) are clearly audible, and very much so, from blocks away. It has to do with the way sound travels from them in all directions and the hypotenuse of a triangle. Just think about it for a sec...

And those rockets are the aerial displays if I'm correct?

I'd love to see if a similar thread pops up around new years time when half the country is busting fireworks.. A few years back we where celebrating Diwali and our neighbour who hates Indians called the cops for us, they don't have dogs or anything. The cops came over we gave them a drink and they left, continued busting crackers the whole night. I find that people generally complain when it's Diwali but fail to do so when new years comes around, point above the same neighbours who complained about us busting fireworks on Diwali lights up the whole streets on new years eve. Although we light it up on new years as well.

The day after new years is a holiday for most people. The day after Diwali is not. Many people have to go to work tomorrow, so kindly take your rockets, point the front end up your arse and light up. :)

BTW, the people who fire off rockets and other fireworks in suburban areas on New Years are just as bad. Family of mine's dog mangled its face a few years ago because he was trying to squeeze through their front gate to get away from the fireworks. They had to have him put down because there was nothing the vet could do for him. One of his eyes was hanging out of its eye socket. Fireworks do not belong in suburban areas.

Actually no.. this was 2 streets away... and I could hear the ones from the other side of the damn valley (over 2kms away)

In my case I (and especially my animals) can hear those burst from houses over the dam near me. Draw a circle from the centre of that point and we're talking an area of about 7km...

That's an irresponsible pet owner  why couldn't they keep the dog inside?

That story right there is why I am a very big advocate of a blanket firework ban in residential areas. Have dedicated spaces where fireworks can be let off in a safe and controlled environment, and where the types are limited to things that aren't potentially lethal if they go wrong.

Ok, now you're just trolling.

Its called responsibility! If people treated animals like how they treated humans you wouldn't have issues like this, you can disagree how much you want, what people do to their pets they wouldn't do to their own child!

No, its called a bunch of idiots with fireworks have now deprived a family of a loved pet because those idiots couldn't think beyond how "pretty it is", and think of the consequences to their neighbours.

You have been trying to troll this thread since you started participating, and therefore I am out.

I will be attempting to organise a group of people to get in touch with their ward councilors to start the conversation of attempting to introduce bylaws similar to Cape Town which makes fireworks in a residential area illegal, no ifs ands or buts. There are dedicated spaces that can be used, and nowhere else.

You see, this is the kind of moronic mindset we're dealing with. You want to shoot pretty lights into the sky that make loud BANG noises, then when other peoples' pets get terrified or even possibly injured because of it, you want to shift the blame to the pet owners.

**** you and your kind. Go satisfy your inner 5-year old somewhere that isn't a residential area. You can go clap hands at the BANG BANG somewhere else, thank you very much. "Ooh, pretty light go bang!" Grow up.

Same as the people that leave their dogs in a vehicle with windows rolled or feeding their dogs chocolate. I don't care what time of the year it is but if you know something is gonna happen to your best to minimize the damage such as call the cops but don't say people should "think" people don't think as you'd want them too so the onus is on you to take matters into your own hands and not blame a 3rd party if your pet suffers and you did not try to prevent it!

Jesus! That is just a truly naive and horribly wrong perspective to adopt. On absolutely all counts. I cannot deal with that lack of logic...

If you leave a toddler unsupervised on a pc and they find something inappropriate are going to blame the person hosting the content cause you didn't care to have some supervision??? Do your part and then point fingers.

You people are complaining about fireworks on diwali.

You should see sea point on the night of eid each year - living hell on earth.
Beach Rd is turned into a speedway by idiots in cheap & nasty cars trying to show off making as much noise & attract as much attention as possible.
The place looks like a pig sty in the morning - the remnants of a chicken bone festival, cold drink, beer & wine bottles (boxes) strewn as far as the eye can see.
A couple of years back some twat was racing & rolled his car into a tree (beach rd is straight & flat - one way traffic). People were treated to a display of the fire dept cutting the car open to extract the young girl trapped inside & screaming in terror / pain - then of course cutting the car further open to remove the remains of her boyfriend's body.

A peculiar way to celebrate one of the most holy days on the calendar !
